New "Grey Gardens" marketing#1
Posted: 5/27/07 at 10:04amI think "Grey Gardens'" new ad campaign is brilliant. The tabloids in times square... the plastered buses... they make me laugh every time I see them.

I can see how the new marketing might work,
but i liked the "classier" look better. the green with little edie.

In the day of digital cameras -- it would be nice for people to post photos of what they are referring to when they mention these things.
I always do.

I'm referring to providing photos of the actual billboards on Times Square and plastered bus ads -- we've all seen the 'new' campaign on the actual website, which though uses the same motif, isn't the same as seeing the photos ON the street.

These pictures were not taken by me, I found them in another thread.

Words to those who plan on talking about these things in the future -- wonderfulwizard11 knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
You mention something -- provide the photo(s). It's just a simple courtesy and makes your post much more purposeful.

Brody, it's not that serious.
When discussing a show, we don't provide a link so if you haven't seen the show you can click and download the entire thing.
If you haven't seen it or don't know what we're talking about, the thread's not for you. Not every thread is for every person.
You're being ABSOLUTELY ridiculous.

Posted: 5/27/07 at 11:09amNot to mention, you can see the marketing campaign on the show's website.

Seeing the 'new' campaign on the website isn't the same thing as the seeing the Times Square billboard, or the theatre marquee or the windowcards outside of the theatre that people mention. Not everyone lives in New York City and passes the theatres daily and see these 'new' changes done, etc.
There are thousands who visit this board who never have been to New York City, nor may never even go in their lifetime, so whenever someone mentions these Times Square ads, or new stuff done to the outside of theatres, a photo would be so appreciated.
I was speaking on their part more than mine, in all honesty.
NOTE: just like the day someone talked about the new additions to the lobby doors at the Palace Theatre for LEGALLY BLONDE. Within minutes someone posted the photos of what was being talked about. Going to the show's official website wouldn't have provided any inkling to what those doors were now displaying.

But you're getting frustrated over a billboard .
Come on.
If I'm in times square (or anywhere) and I see something interesting and want to discuss it, I will post about it. I'm not a tourist nor a paparazzi - I don't carry a camera with my everywhere I will go.
I see how it must suck that if you don't live in New York, you might not know what's being talked about - but should that then prevent the ENTIRE conversation from happenening unless we have a picture to clue you in? Come on. You don't live in NY. Not OUR problem. I don't live in LA (not that I wish I did) but sometimes things are discussed and I don't have a picture. It's okay. Not for everyone.
re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#12
Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:28pmI like the new marketing campaign. I preferred the "classy" version, but if the producers or whoever felt that it had run its course and sales were slow, this is a really interesting alternative.

Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:31pmOoh, I LOVE the #1 poster! :)
re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#14
Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:33pmAnd really, Brody, 90% of the pictures you post are just random publicity shots. It's not like fifteen pictures in a post are really that imperative to making a point.
re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#15
Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:38pmI actually like them. It's to bad that everything about this show/documentary makes me sick to my stomach. I'd really like to like it but it makes want to throw up.
re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#16
Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:42pmWhy does it make you want to throw up?

re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#18
Posted: 5/27/07 at 12:50pmI think its because I threw several times during the documentary and the musical reminds me of that and the images in my head.
re: New 'Grey Gardens' marketing#19
Posted: 5/27/07 at 3:38pmI have to say - I too appreciate seeing pictures of things "on the streets," especially since I'm not centered in New York, but like to keep up to date for the times when I do get to visit.

I'm bumping this thread because I found these pictures on the show's myspace:

I was so shocked when I saw these, and a little pleased actually. I had designed a poster for a production of Le Nozze di Figaro that I was in last year that was just about exactly the same. I was quite pleased with it, and then when I saw it on the buses and stuff for GG, I was pleased as punch.

I prefer the logo photo with the green background, aesthetically speaking, but these are fun. Half the fun of Grey Gardens is the dichotomy of classy/trashy.
