All the costumes seem kind of inconsistent. Like, they don't all seem like they're from the same show.
I agree !!!
The sets looks like its from Disney's Its a Small World Ride and some from las Vegas'
shows like Le Reve (at the Wynn) and Cirque de Soleil's O (at the Bellagio)
Some costumes (mermaids) are from Las Vegas' shows ( like Cirque de Soleils), Sebastian's & Prince Eric's are from Massoit Community College Theater and the flounder's costumes are from...The Quincy Dinner Theater (sewn by housewives and material from JoAnn's fabric (per WBaF )
Ursula's costume looks like its from Cirque de Soleil's Zumanity (at New York New York) one of the outrageous outfits by one of the drag queens with a whip.
ONE WORD : COHESIVENESS...

jaystarr: Yes exactly! And it looks tacky. Ariel looks good and everything, but don't they realize that colour schemes and shades that work in cartoons don't always work on REAL people?...
and here's some from Playbill... might have been posted already but I will post it again...
What are those ladies supposed to be? chicks???

Yeah, somehow they managed to make Norm's fantastic abs look...funny.
OMG... I was about thinking the same thing with you... I love his abs... though I think he looks more like this....
again....

I think that Disney was going to go "over the top" with this show, and they really are falling short!
It just looks so bright, and in a headache way.
not to make excuses for the show, but I remember reading someone's review and they mentioned how we're sort of viewing the world through Ariel's eyes (which I never even thought of) and that is why things look a little strange or exaggerated, like the costumes on the maids around the bathtub or even the boat - it has always reminded me of a gravy boat. I guess I'll make up my mind when I see it next Saturday.

I'm totally going to keep that in mind, dshnookie. Everything on this thread is getting so repetitive, so it's nice to hear something like that since it gives a different perspective of what is going on on stage.
Thanks Zepka102, I just feel like people have either seen the show and have already posted a comment and need to leave it at that one comment and not continue posting and posting the same thing OR they havent seen the show and are going solely by the pictures and preview video and feel like they have the whole show pegged. See it and then make a critique.
I found that review I referenced in my first post:
"This isn’t the world as we see it. It’s the world as Ariel sees it. That’s why the boat is almost golden, that’s why the human objects look a little different, that’s why the maids dresses look so over-stylized (I mean, if you spent your entire life underwater where everything is slick and form fitting for swimming, wouldn’t even a small poof of twill on a dress seem fluffy and strange?)...
It is BrianS's review and here's the link of the whole thing:

I saw the show this past Saturday and the lighting, sets and costumes are absolutely breathtaking! Especially the lighting during the curtain call. Really gorgeous!
"Especially the lighting during the curtain call."
The lighting during the curtain call.
That, to you, was the best part of the show?
The way the lights shone.
While the cast bowed.
OK.
Oh Ben you never cease to amaze me.
When and if you actually see the show, you will be noticing the lighting during the curtain call, but until you see it, you have no room to talk.
Do I know you? I don't think I've ever talked to you before...why're you acting like we know each other? Seriously?
And whether or not I have seen the show does not negate my ability or credibility in interpreting your short "review" (though it's too short to even be called a review) of the show. I said nothing about the quality of the show itself, so I don't see why you're trying to pull the "You haven't seen it you shouldn't talk!!1" card on me...
Oh Madison (or whoever you are) you never cease to amaze me.
No, you don't know me.
My name is not Madison.
I have seen the show and wrote a review about it, maybe not a very long one, on another thread today.
I am finished going back and forth with you about this.
Glad you see it my way. TTYL BFF!!OMG
