Features brief clips of "Friend Like Me", and "A Whole New World".
Also, first real look at what Abu looks like, and the type of humor in the movie.
Thoughts?

I think you're thinking of Mulan.

This looks like a better trailer. We get a stronger sense of the story and visuals, and Will Smith is able to showcase more of his personality. Based on this new trailer and the poster, this version of Aladdin seems to be more of an adventure film than a comedy, and I believe that this is a good thing. However, I am not impressed by what I have seen of Jafar (I don't think he will step out of Johnathan Freeman's shadow) and the animals look like they will probably be superfluous. The main question affecting all Live-Action Disney remakes (will this be a good film on its own terms?) goes unanswered - we will have to wait until Memorial day to find out whether this can be more than another lavish remake...

This trailer is definitely a lot better than the teasers. I'm fine with Jafar, because a live-action 50 year old hitting on a teenage princess wouldn't go over well in 2019. He still could be a bit more menacing though, but I'll save my judgments for the film. My other main gripe is the lighting. Some of the scenes look cheap, almost soap opera level. Then you have shots like Jasmine with the rose petals falling around her that looks stunning.

Did they say anything about new songs being written for this? Or maybe some of the songs from the Broadway Musical being included in this version?

Pasek and Paul have written 2 or 3 new songs, including one for Jasmine which is apparently called “Speechless”...
I don’t expect the new songs to surpass the originals, but as long as they aren’t all ballads like the new additions to Beauty and the Beast, I will be happy...

Music sequences and Will Smith as the Genie seem promising
Withholding judgment re: lighting, etc. Studios' marketing folk are notorious about kicking up brightness and reducing frame rate for scenes in trailers (and worse) TV ads. The shots go by so quickly they don't want audience's eyes hunting for detail in dark or shaded areas. MANY times I've thought something looked over-lit or cheap only to find it pleasing in the theater or on Bluray/4K.

Atleast the singing is somewhat pleasing unlike Beauty and the Beast. Naomi sounds good as Jasmine.

A friend of mine seen an advanced preview of the film and said it was horrible. None of the cast can sing besides Naomi Scott and its very blandly filmed besides the Friend like Me and the Whole new world segment.
There are none of the Broadway songs included either not that they ever intended to have them in there but I was hoping for Proud of your Boy. Instead there's a second reprise of One Jump Ahead and Jasmine's new song.
Unfortunately it also falls into the same trap of sometimes overusing autotune like Beauty and the Beast to fix performances from a weak lead.

I don't remember reading that the original songs had no intention of being included. I knew they were going that way with Mulan, but not Aladdin. Sad to hear.

Review embargo is May 22nd, just a day before release.
Usually when Disney has a movie they know is really good, the embargo ends much earlier.
Draw your own conclusions.

Here's a clip of "Prince Ali." I find it extremely underwhelming.

I saw the extended preview at Walt Disney World last week. It was basically the entire One Jump number and then a quick Genie scene. The scenery looks fantastic but I agree the singing is probably going to be one of the weaker aspects of this. I still plan on seeing it in theaters but I probably won't see it more than once.
I loved the Beauty and the Beast remake including the new music so I'm hopeful that Pasek and Paul have done Aladdin justice with their new songs. Looks like Menken was still involved with writing the new music so I'm happy about that.

I was asking my friend to elaborate on the music, basically the most important part in and musical film let's be honest. She said not to go in expecting classic Menken Disney and that all the music was pretty much redone as pop and RnB like the Annie's remake. It's really lowered my expectations unfortunately.

Anyone else kind of bummed out by how broad-strokes Jasmine’s new song is?? The lyrics remind me so much of “This Is Me.” I had high hopes, but to me it just sounds like another “Never gonna cut me down! Can’t silence me! Gonna March to the beat of my own drum!” ballad with a pop beat. I appreciate the idea of a bolder, resistant Jasmine... but I wish it were more thoughtful. Really I wish Howard Ashman were still around to write the lyrics :/
Still looking forward to seeing it and I’m happy that early reports are decent!

I'm gonna be controversial and say that I'd prefer if this wasn't a musical film and would've probably worked better that way.

The funny this is, I KNOW it was announced way back when that it wasn't going to be, I just don't remember where...I guess someone changed their mind ;P
And as for that song...yeah hard pass. I can't believe a new team wrote the new songs at all really...
It's definitely a better trailer, but I can't say I'm looking forward to it. Especially with the fact on how Disney's relationship to Robin Williams was when the original movie was made. There's just something that feels off. But we'll see!
