Me too! I checked Amazon and couldn't find either up yet.
he only one that is really terrible is the London revival from the 80s with Wayne Sleep.
- I bought that recording. Listened to it once, and haven't since!
Is there anywhere else to get the New London recording online, besides that one site?
NS, have u even watched the Mendes production? The movie to me is COMPLETELY different for obvious reasons, except the songs.
I love the musical more than the film, storywise. Terrific film still~
The current production in London is just vulgar! I mean, some of the nudity is COMPLETELY unnessa and just abused the use of nudity! I mean, when I first heard they're gona use nudity I thought, wow, this must be a VERY strong production cuz Cabaret's about corruption and all and I thought it wud be a gd touch to the show if handled well. But nope, it wasnt done well at all! The direction's bad, the choreography is just what who and a HUH?! (soz cant resist a Karen Walker expression) and sets are cheap. The costumes were fine. The cast was prob the least thing to worry about. I liked AMM's Sally though I think she cudve pushed for alittle more edge to the role but she was gd and so was the rest of the cast!
Im sure the CD will be fine but in terms of watching it live, I wudnt recommend it to anyone... it was SUCH an embarrassment when I brought 2 friends who are new to musical theatre to watch the show as I thought it wud be as strong and wonderful as the Mendes production but they left the theatre going 0_0 I knew I shudve brought them to 'Faust' or 'Caroline Or Change' instead!
Anyway, not only was the show bad, the theatre sucked as well! I sat in the Grand Circle and they didnt have ANY binoculus! Not even at the bars! THe seats were EXTREMELY squeeky and bar up at the Grand Circle had NOTHING to sell! After awhile, the rest of the audience were so bored with the performance they started whispering and all!

I agree completely. It was middling at best, and the only reason I rate it thus, is because of the perfomances of Sheila Hancock and Geoffrey Hutchings. I thought both were inspired as Schneider and Shultz. The ensemble shone, but on the whole it didn't work for me.
I was shocked when it was extended...
Well, I'm trying to figure out how people play the Emcee to get a better grasp on the character. It seems like it's just a free for all, but my favorite interpretation has been Alan Cummings because he brought some humor and wit to the role.
If you have, and if you don't have it you should most definitely consider getting it, CABARET: The Illustrated Book and Lyrics, Alan Cumming talks about his interpretation of the role.
"The emcee in this production is the overseer of the whole show and not just the club. The atmosphere of the evening is very much of his making. He's down and dirty. He's come up from the streets and he brings the streets with him. My take is that he's a drug addict. You can see the track marks on his body from the drugs. And as the play progresses, with the rise of fascism, the emcee gets more and more debauched."
- Alan Cumming, Playbill
I think I may have to save up to get this newer recording, and seeing as I already have four recordings of the show, I don't think a fifth would hurt me. Yes, I like the score of the show too much, but it's not a terrible show to admire.

Has anybody had experience ordering off of an international Amazon, lets say Amazon.fr? Because I checked and my American information still shows up when I log in and the shipping address is correct, but the payment remains in French and I also can't tell the shipping fees. Should I just wait until it is released for order in the U.S.? Or how long it might be?
Sorry for all the questions!
^ I just ordered something off of Amazon.co.uk. You won't see the price converted into the US Dollar until it's charged on your credit card. I suggest using a currency converter to estimate the cost
Footlight will have it in a few weeks - it will probably be cheaper to order through them if you aren't in a rush.

I think the raunchy-factor has to do with the changing times.
As society gets progressively more accepting, I think the staging seems to reflect that. I highly doubt Prince's version would be shocking at all today, in the way, perhaps, a performance would shock a Berliner in the 30's.
I got mine today. Here's the track list if anyone is still interested...
01. Willkomen
02. So What?
03. Don't Tell Mamma
04. Mein Herr
05. Perfectly Marvellous
06. Two Ladies
07. It Couldn't Please Me More
08. Transition (Why Should I Wake Up?/I Don't Care Much)
09. Maybe This Time
10. Tomorrow Belongs to Me
11. Entr'acte
12. Married
13. Tomorrow Belongs to Me (reprise)/The Money Song
14. Married (reprise)
15. If You Could See Her
16. What Would You Do?
17. I Don't Care Much
18. Cabaret
19. Finale
"I Don't Care Much" was written to be sung by a prostitute outside the club, but was cut before rehearsals. The concept of the show really changed and evolved under Hal Prince's direction: the story became much more pointed. They added the song back for the first Broadway revival in 1987 (sung by Grey)."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that song written almost as a dare to Kander & Ebb, while at dinner? I had heard that they said they could write a song in moments, and they asked what their dinner companion would like it to be about, to which he/she replied "I don't care much". That's the story I've always known, but it oould be wrong.
