My fiancee and I are only five weeks away from our next NY theater weekend (April 17th to the 20th), and as a regular visitor since 2002, I am looking forward to returning to my favorite city to experience great shows, indulge in excellent food, and meet up with wonderful friends.
We usually stay at The Michelangelo on W 51st (directly behind the Winter Garden and Ellen's Stardust), but when I tried to book, they only had suites available that were more than I wanted to spend. I'm assuming since the weekend we are going is Easter, rooms booked up faster than normal.
So, I am going to be trying a new hotel for the first time since 2007 and staying at the Omni Berkshire Place on E 52nd. I actually got a very good deal on a Deluxe City View Room with Breakfast included that was actually cheaper than what the Best Western Times Square wanted for that weekend. Just curious if anyone has stayed there and can share their experiences or suggestions.
It's obviously got easy access to the shows which is one of my main needs. We're going to be seeing Gypsy, Hugh Jackman at Radio City, Maybe Happy Ending and Old Friends while we're there, so it's sure to be a great weekend. And while it's hard to not stay at the Michelangelo (where the staff are so familiar with us, they treat us like valued guests), maybe I will discover a new favorite at the Omni.
I have stayed there … but that was back in 2009. It was fine.
Hey Keiichi! Great choice, I recommend this hotel when family and friends come into town because the rooms are bigger than most hotels in the midtown area. It has a gorgeous lobby, it's very clean, and the staff has always been pretty great. It also has some awesome Broadway history involving one particular suite.
New York in the Spring is the best, enjoy!
I don't know about the Omni but just had to chime in on the Michelangelo. It's been years since I've stayed there but, wow, those rooms are gorgeous. I tend to stay at Hilton properties anymore, one in particular. Hilton points and all that... But if I can ever find a relatively decent rate, I might splurge on the Michelangelo again.
