New Kennedy Center FOLLIES website & cast info

Follies at the KC began rehearsals on April 5 and now they have a new website up and running for the show now. Just includes photos, some costume sketches(!!!) and the billing info right now--looks like Elaine Paige went down the Yvonne deCarlo path for her billing in playbills, etc. SO looking forward to this production! What a cast!!!

Any thoughts at this point / have people heard anything about the rehearsal process/progress thusfar? I assume we'll get some pics and video footage/interviews soon...

Danny Burstein posted as his Facebook profile picture, a publicity shot of the cast. Unfortunately, it's cropped to only show him and Bernadette, but there's obviously the full cast in the picture. Has anyone else seen the entire picture? I was hoping it'd be posted on the new site!

Thanks for the link! A bit miffed that Bolero D'Amour is cut (once again--even in this show--people seem to want to diminish the importance of dance in many of the pre Lapine Sondheim shows...) and I sorta prefer Follies without an intermission, although it's a bit long without one, so I get why they usually put one back in (like with the original out of town try outs)... But still wish I could see this

The sketch of Sally's costume looks pretty wrong for Sally. I'm assuming that's her party dress.

I thought it was a weird sketch, too.

xoffender, I think that picture was in the magazine that the Kennedy Center just mailed out. There was a picture of the four main actors in it, but I don't remember if it was the same one because I've already recycled it.

The style even seems wrong. Sally's dress should be dowdy compared to Phyllis'.

No, she would (hopefully) be in a long dress for Losing My Mind...But I've always thought of Phyllis as a fiery red-type of person and Sally in something more sweet (not red)...ah well, still looks like a great production, love the showgirl costume drawings...

Wait...are we saying the red dress is NOT for LUCY AND JESSIE? And the long black with the fabulous necklines is NOT for LOSING MY MIND? Cause that's what I assumed they were.

The black dress says "Phyllis" and the red says "Sally."

I only looked at the thumbnails where the names weren't listed!

How odd. It is possible, though, that they're simply misnamed, right? Cause...what a strange Sally dress!

It seems to be labeled right though--Phyllis wouldn't wear a cutesie short dress, and Sally wouldn't wear a slinky sexy long dress...Maybe they're preliminary and will change?

Well in the original script which they are apparently using, there are lines about Sally's dress. Buddy says it has "all kinds of flowers on it." And Phyllis asks her: "Who made your dress? Or did you make it?"

That red dress doesn't fit those lines at all. They can cut them. But Sally's dress should be dowdy.

That's why I thought it was their Follies dresses. It seems customary to put Phyllis in red for LUCY AND JESSIE (or whichever song is being used) and something long and formfitting for Sally for LOSING MY MIND.

Apparently 'Bolero D'Amour' really has been cut. How do we feel about this? It was never one of my favorites, but I know some love it.

I love it in theory, but I've never seen it done well. It's usually a younger couple actually dancing while the older couple just sort of stands there and sways.

I bet they had a tough time finding good older dancers :/ Even the original production did...

I'm still puzzled by the dresses...ah well, we'll wait and see! I'm sure it will turn out fine in the end...Cannot wait to see this Memorial Day weekend!

Anyone know if theres any rehearsal footage yet??? Or new interviews or photos or set sketches or anything?? (sorry, excited about this show!)

I'm with you. I'm much too excited to see this - 32 days from now! - to get worried about the admittedly perplexing sketches. They could, of course, have the names wrong. I could see the red dress being a Lucy and Jessie prototype, although I'd hope the finished product has a little more pizazz.

I don't buy that--a hard time finding 50+ aged dancers for Bolero? In the DC/NY area? Really?? For one 4 min number? I think the clips of it in one bit of those infamous home movies shows that Bennett made it a heartbreaking and kinda terrifying number. I dunno--I'm pretty pissed it's cut--and with the show divided into acts they dont' even have the excuse of time as it will be a rather short first (and second) act.
