I think it looks cute, but would love to see a seperation between them, more like having Sophie in a nervous pose rather than a happy pose. And Meryl looks fine (she looks clueless), so that works.
What are your thoughs?

"The Movie" is a little unncessary. I'm still trying to understand what the hell Meryl Streep is trying to accomplish with this film.
Thanks jaystarr for posting the photo, computer is funny and I could not do it...
PM me, we live in the same city!
Why should she be trying to accomplish anything?
Perhaps she just felt like doing a fun light-hearted musical comedy. Must everything she does be a campaign for an Oscar?
Hey Scary,
Maybe she is not trying to accomplish anything with the film. Maybe she justs wants to do something fun. And maybe show the world that she can also sing well(not many people know that).
Aww..FOAntic you beat me too it!
I love it! I think it's just adorable.
Oh, I was expecting a new movie poster -- this one was already posted on here about 2 weeks ago.
"I'm still trying to understand what the hell Meryl Streep is trying to accomplish with this film."
Exactly what she did with She Devil, Death Becomes Her, Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, Prime and will be doing in Julie & Julia. The woman's got two Oscars, fourteen nominations, two Emmys, three nominations, six Golden Globes, twenty one nominations, two Theatre World Awards, a Tony nomination and an AFI Lifetime Achievemtn Award. If there's ANYONE in this world who doesn't need to prove themself, it's her.
Unlike a lot of Hollywood actresses, Meryl knows when to have fun with her films. Nobody thought (starting with her, I'm sure) that she would be Oscar-nominated for what was released as a summer popcorn chick flick in 2006. What I love the most about seeing Meryl play this comic characters is that you can tell she is having so much fun on screen, that's why I love SHE-DEVIL and DEATH BECOMES HER.
From the MAMMA MIA trailers, you can tell she is just having a good time. She's got nothing to "accomplish" by making this movie. She's American royalty. And it is probably her versatility as an actress and her ability to take all kinds of roles (this year she'll be starring in MAMMA MIA and DOUBT, complete opposites) that has kept her getting roles again and again at an age when a lot of other actresses are struggling to stay in the business.
Meryl is fortunate enough to be in a level where she doesn't need to prove herself whatsoever, which is why her selection of film roles is so diverse -- she does whatever she pleases. Large budget, low budget, for free (those Public Theatre appearances). She just does whatever project she likes, PLUS her addition to a film elevates its production stance immensely, regardless of the film's eventual box office rank.
Being a self-professed fan of the musical MAMMA MIA!, she jumped at the honor of being considered for the film version. Benny and Bjorn have both stated that once she joined the project the rest fell into place almost instantly. Also, although she has sung in quite a bit of her films, she's thrilled that MAMMA MIA! is her first movie musical.
I can;t make it out...
Is she holding a boa?
...and that seems like a strange position to have her leg in.
Maybe my eyes are just tired?
Yup -- that's her "Dancing Queen" feather boa and nope... her leg left looks normal; its just a bent knee thing we all can do.

I would add to that list Stuck On You, where she played herself (as did Cher).
Bonnie and Clyde the musical and Sweet Bird of Youth the musical. Two reasons why I love this woman with heartfelt devotion.
Meryl Streep is perhaps the only reason why I would go to see this film. Just from the trailer, she looks like she's having so much fun that it's almost infectious.
Exactly, Meryl is the only reason I'm incredibly excited about this film. It's like after she became part of it, it became an event for me.
And as Brody said, after Streep accepted playing Donna, everyone else who had said had other projects suddenly became free and available to do the film. She just adds this prestige to anything she endorses.

Yeah, but nobody pays any attention to your threads. So this is the first time anybody is seeing it aside from you.
"The Movie" is a little unncessary.
Isn't every movie unnecessary? The purpose of making big Hollywood films is to make money. And this movie will do that. Sounds like it fulfills the same necessity as every other big Hollywood film.
I think the poster was referring to the actual words "The Movie". I'm guessing the producers don't want people to be confused at the multiplex when they see that poster thinking that the live stage show will be going on in Screening Room 13.
Who wouldn't love to be paid to sing and dance in Greece? I sure wouldn't! I'm looking forward to this movie because of Meryl and the cast she's leading. Pierce! Colin! Love em'!
And I love that they actually went to Greece instead of "faking it" in Hollywood. The beauty of that country cannot be faked.
I don't know much about the actress playing Sophie but in that picture they actually look like mother and daughter.
Thanks, DeadParrot. My bad.
Eris, if you could only choose one, which would it be:
GREASE or GREECE?
"Isn't every movie unnecessary? The purpose of making big Hollywood films is to make money. And this movie will do that. Sounds like it fulfills the same necessity as every other big Hollywood film."
If it fulfills a necessity, how is it then unnecessary, F*CKwad!
WBaF, hands down it would be Greece. My screen name here is based in Greek mythology and my senior project in college was based on Greek mythology. And it's a beautiful country (that I haven't been to yet)
Grease on the other hand is a tired musical about a girl who becomes a slut to fit in. I'm, actually, not a huge fan of the show itself though I do like some of the music. I don't much like the plot though.
Is this movie still being released the same day as The Dark Knight?
