I suppose you cringe every time the expression "Great White Way" is used, eh?

Sum, when did you change your signature? I LOVE that quote. From Broadway: Golden Age Sequel Preview, correct?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"Liza from the Block"

Don't be fooled by the
proper english that I got
I'm still, I'm still
Liza from the block."

Listen - the whole IDEA of My Fair Lady in the "ghetto" is offensive. Instead of a flower girl, is she a sweeper at the salon? And does some white man come and save her, and turn her into something she's not?
The idea is mad whack!

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

This makes me want to cry (not the thread argument but the actual topic). Almost literally, since I just finished a production of My Fair Lady and the idea of this therefore seems especially repulsive.

Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen= PAIN!!!
Especially the idea of 'ELIZA ROCKS'. It made me laugh because it was so stupid.

The idea of it actually coming to Bway made me pee my pants.

Dear Lord save us!!

Sumofallthings- I think it was Mel Brooks who said that quote in your signature.

How is it possible that someone said to themself, "hey! I'll RE-WRITE My Fair Lady and set it in the GHETTO! GREAT IDEA!" How, I ask you?! HOW?!

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

Jose'-that was the funniest thing I have read all night.
RE: the musical.....this is worse than Kelly Clarkson in Funny Girl!

"I guess she is one very confident girl who feels if you see it, it shall be. I hope she sees a room with a piano player and a bunch of scary middle-aged queens sitting behind a table, talking to each other as she auditions!!" -Marc Shaiman on Kelly Osbourne in Hairspray
