Whatever the circumstances, the optimist within me is truly, truly, truly banking on a 'something wonderful' to take shape over at 54 this coming winter. With Hoff's official departure from the production, I can't say whether or not I'm all that thrilled and/or disgusted 'cause well, I had only seen him in JERSEY BOYS in '06. From published 'reports' and reviews (from the early previews) of PAL JOEY, it was noted (many a time) that Christian Hoff didn't 'cut the mustard' and all that. Personal opinions are what make the world go 'round. In any case, I feel that *whomever* it is on the bill (Matthew Risch, evidently) will damn-sure deliver in the role. I've never been one to hold grudges, especially when an actor's still 'feeling-out' his/her material, so by the time this puppy opens on Dec. 18th, I have a good inkling that Matthew will soar above and beyond all expectations. It ain't no storybook ending ... Not yet, but we're gettin' there. Break legs.
Well, I'm no theatre professional but I thought Matthew Risch was terrific in Sunday's performance.
Anyone see the show last night or going to tonight's performance? Would love to hear thoughts... Please share
If he IS reading this board, I'm going to see Pal Joey next week and am looking forward to it!
Break a leg, Mr. Risch!

When the PAL JOEY tix first went on sale, I bought mine for Dec. 18th just because it fit my schedule - so now I'm pretty happy to find myself holding a front-row mezzanine aisle seat for the new opening night!
And I hope Matthew Risch hits it out of the ballpark, personally.
One of my favorite posters! Hi Tirso!!

Usually when they change opening nights everyone with tickets for that day has to exchange them.
Happened with Little Mermaid last year, and a few other shows.
I had decided to skip this prior to Mr Hoff's injury. Now with Mr Risch in the lead I am very excited to go check out the show.
My friend is seeing it this evening. I was wondering if the Playbills have been changed to relflect Mr. Risch as the lead.
Do you think they'll change the poster? I know the guy is mostly in shadow, but I still think it looks a lot like Christian Hoff.

Playbills are published on a weekly basis -- i.e., the program that you get on Monday is the one you get on that Sunday. That's why so many Playbills indicate "Opening Night Performance" on the title page, even though you're not there on the actual opening night. Last year, it was some weeks before Cheyenne was listed in the Playbill proper -- for a long time, all you got was an insert, with Carpinello's name on the title page.
So... any BWW critiques from tonight?
Thanks Ed. My friend sends me Playbills from every show he sees that I haven't seen. (He see's just about everything). He just called me about 20 minutes ago as he was waving to me at the TGI Friday's cam and said he didn't like the show. He didn't care for Risch's voice. I am sure I will get the details shortly when he gets home. He did like Stockard Channing though.
Anyone rush recently? I really want to see it. For Stockard primarily.
Not rush but I went today to get more Hip Tix tickets for this weekend and they still had pretty good seats (and they even had it for tonight if I wanted).
I went last week too but they somehow screwed up my Hip Tix order so we got the GA seats and ended up with 4th row Orchestra sides which were pretty good actually.
It was pretty full but there was still seats here and there.
Stockard is terrific but its Martha Plimpton who is the real surprise gem here.
So... based on the overall thoughts here on BWW, maybe I was right all along...?
