YES!...I THINK BARBRA STREISAND is very funny in FUNNY GIRL!...my 99 year old mother actually saw FANNY BRICE on stage in NYC in the 'old days'...and then later in life when she saw BARBRA do Fanny in the film she became an instant fan...i trust my mother who has seen both in her life time...BARBRA is 'quirky' and from all i have seen on film so was Fanny on stage or in the few film roles she played...BARBRA as FANNY was a perfect stage and screen fit...even though she did not win a TONY for her stage effort, she was awarded an OSCAR, when she TIED with the great KATHARINE HEPBURN...not so bad for a socalled not so funny girl...
Totally agree with Henrik-- Maya Rudolph is a brilliant match for Fanny Brice. Has anyone seen her live stagework?
Unfortunately she's in the fall NBC sitcom Up All Night, so that seems like a dealbreaker.
Rudolph might be a good fit. Although she is far too old (39 next week), she comes across much younger onscreen, so she should have no trouble as the younger Fanny.

Drag Queen Tammie Brown (best remembered from RuPaul's drag show competitions), I actually think has the perfect 'look' of Fannie Brice. Yeah, can you imagine, lipsynching on a Broadway stage to Barbra? :)
Just to throw an up-and-comer's name into the mix: Does anyone know NY cabaret artist Molly Pope?
She has a big ol' voice and she's funny as hell. Also moving, I find.
I was about to suggest Molly Pope- I saw her live last month and all I could think was how fantastic she'd be in this. I agree- Big Ol' voice and funny as hell!
Was looking around youtube for any promising Funny Girl singers and came across this video.
How about this girl?

Wow! I think you are on to something, wickedfan!
Especially when you see Shaina in this clip, a better sample of comedy. Big voice, great look, likeable, funny - Dear Mr. Sher, hire her!

Farah Alvin hands down. Just saw her open Funny Girl at Gretna and she was perfection. A serious broadway talent that deserves more exposure than others on the list.
