Thanks for the clip. While it was good, it reaffirms my opinion that the Chicago cast is clearly superior, person for person. Ana looks exactly as you would want and expect Elphaba to look. Ana's singing and acting are heads above. Kate's singing and acting are much smoother and natural. I urge anyone who wants to experience the best Wicked to get to Chicago before this cast splits.
that was awesome. I loved seeing more of Popular too - Kendra's so adorable, and I LOVE Steph's reactions to every little thing she says and does

Does anyone else think that Stephanie J. Block looks a lot like a younger Cher during the "One Short Day" segment?

Somebody was asking where the video newsreel was shot...
The answer is Toronto; the proscenium is that of the Canon Theatre.

Mmmm. I love Kendra. And is it me or is the ensemble during One Short Day especially vibrato-riffic?

I am baffled as to why anybody thinks this video is good.
It is cheesy.
These actors are not invested. Their performances are not rich; quite the contrary, they are paper-thin.
Kendra's comic timing is staggering in its nonexistence.
However, I must concede that there are thrilling moments, such as when Kendra is holding the poppies (sunflowers? haha) and, though I hate to admit it, when the two hug at the second-to-last moment of Defying Gravity.
If anybody else thinks that Popular is an embarrassment, I would love to commiserate.

where can i find the other wicked tour clips? thanks :)
Kendra's "Popular" was very underwhelming.
Stephanie J. Block is just amazing. Her Defying Gravity is incredible.
And Carol Kane spinning and twirling is just hilarious.

Is anyone else thinking that they actually filmed the whole show? There were a LOT of clips in there, and maybe they would release it on video or something!?! But then again, that's my stupid imagination. I LOVE the camera angles, however! They're so cool! Ahh! I heart Wicked.

It was just filmed for promo and media newsreels.
There were bits in that video as well as other ones I've seen that suggested that selected scenes were set up specifically for the shoot.
Eh. I'm not crazy about this cast. I'm sure seeing them in person is a very different experience, but I've just been underwhelmed by all the clips I've seen and heard. And Stephanie sounds flat on the last note of DG.

Kendra is HILARIOUS during Popular. That clip doesn't do her justice at all. And...well, you all know how highly I think of the green one :)
YAY,
These are some great clips...And yesm it was for sure filmed in Toronto, becuase Jenna was saying she was getting shows that day because Steph wanted to sound good for the press clips they were filming that week.

Quick question: I realize Elphaba's hair has been discussed in earlier threads, but did anyone ever come to a conclusion as to why her hair is now down during One Short Day? It looks positively ratty and downright unflattering.
The moment when Kendra looks out at the audience to sing "I hope you're happy" at the end of Defying Gravity? It rings false on film. Her arm looks limp and uninvested . . . I suppose they must not have changed the blocking for the film, but another angle might have helped the moment look less fake-y.
I'm not fond of Stephanie's wig in general. MUCH too straight and sort of unnatural looking. And Flame, I know what you mean when Kendra does that...it looks sort of forced and...hollow.
The thing that puzzles me is the fact that the order is completely BACKWARDS. WHY is Defying Gravity FIRST and OneShort Day last?
Hee hee. Carol(e), twirl twirl.
I see it on Sept. 20th. Was going to share this with the 23 people in my group but I think it shows a bit too much. None of them have seen the show and I would rather them be suprised. And I know they won't go to the DCPA site. Thanks for the link though! I didn't even know it existed. The show is pretty much sold out for its run here. Box office just told me that they opened up obstructed view seats last week and, at that poing, there were very few single seats non-obstructed. There are still good seats available for the opening night Gala and the VIP night.
I thought that Defying Gravity was awful..

I'm just curious as to why they significantly changed the lighting. I mean, subtle changes to make the cinematography better are fine, but the very "loud" pink backlighting the the Popular scene is just so distracting.
oh my gosh i love it!! aah thanx!
I am going to try to keep an open mind! I saw the original cast and I was not impressed with Defying Gravity or Popular on the clip. Especially Popular. I know these two need to make the characters their own, but Idina and Especially Kristin have their indelible stamp on them that is hard to duplicate. But I will wait until after seeing it in Sept. to decide. I am wondering if that was filmed earlier in the tour or recently?
trpguyy,
Are you saying that they changed the lighting for these film clips or from the Broadway version. They actually redeisgned a lot of the lighting, and the designers were overheard several times saying that the show's lighting looked much better in Toronto than on Broadway. I cannot compare because I only saw it in Toronto, but it was lush and beautiful. The popular scene was aactually a standout because the little tiny peice of sky that is visible slowly fades from day to night before Galinda's "Oh look...it's tomorrow!" and it turns beautiful colours.

Thecoloroffame, it's okay to not be so critical and pick at every little thing. I'm guessing when they did it, it was for a different type of audience (none probably and a camera), so give them some credit. And what happened to the green glasses in One Short Day? And it looks like they filmed Dancing Through Life, which I would love to see. As a matter of fact, I would just love to see the whole show this way.

You're right, Superstar - it's okay to not be so critical. But that's not why I'm on this board.
I don't know ... Kendra's good ... but, she didn't thrill me.
And Carol is wonderous ... all I think of when her name come up .... "It's a TOASTER!" ahh, Scrooged is a great movie.
I'm not a fan of how Steph says, "And nobody in all of Oz ...", it sounds a little forced, but no doubt her voice is incredible.
Does anyone know if there's any promo footage or anything like that with Ana?
