I was walking through Times Square and passed by the "Size Matters" billboard to see it had changed.
I snapped a quick pic with my phone.
Just thought people would be interested.

Uhhhhmmm but its not really alive... UHHH you haven't even started touring yet... not alone snagged a theatre, announced your entire cast, or even really gripped us since on monday you were suppose to announce something amazing..... Snore snore snore... and lets not even start with how insulting mr Brooks you are to the broadway community who has so fulheartedly supported you... that you have to try to steal a theatre from another production that hasn't even closed or announced closure.(I don't even think PQ is good, but its doing somewhat well for now and it keeps people in a job)
MR BROOKS you're what people in the real World call A BULLY!! Throw your money around a little more why don't you. So Unclassy.
OK I've Vented Sorry. Everyone has been talking so much about this and its so pissing me off that I exploded.

That article about Mel Books and YF came from the BIGGEST low life gossip columnist of all. Mike Riedel from the NY Post. A less credible source of information I just can't think of..
Don't forget, that he was the one and only "source" for the rumor about Lane and Broderick returning the Producers to close out the show. We all know how wrong he was..
Mike Riedel - is known for making up things just that he can appear to be in the know and informed on the theatre scene.

Since it's right above the Palace Theatre where Legally Blonde is playing, and I'm seeing it tonight, I'd be so excited to think about that, so I might as well just describe looking at it in the way that I know best...
DA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! (bum-ba-ba-BUM-BUM)
DA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! (bum-ba-ba-BUM-BUM)
DA-DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! (bum-ba-ba-BUM-BUM-ba-ba-BUM-BUM!!)
Hint: It's the leitmotif from another musical written by the composer of BLONDE.

Good lord, you people act like you've got some personal resentment for Mel Brooks.
When he does something to you personally, then you can complain.

I agree with Yankeefan. Mel Brooks is the victim of the biggest know gossip there is.. Mike Riedel!
So far.. until proven by a creditable source, Mel hasn't done anything. Yet people are very quick to rip him apart. I for one would love to know how this hate fest started.
Theatre is a business. The name of the game... have a good show, sell tickets and make money.
There is a shortage of theatres for all the shows that want to come to the Broadway stage. So some shows have to wait to get a venue, some will never get one, and some have to close early.

Riedel is as credible as any gossip columnist. Love him or hate him, he is right 95% of the time. He's got great sources, friends and foes. Tom Meehan is one of them.
It wouldn't surprise me if the YF team went looking at the Hilton. In fact, it would be the smartest thing they could do, if the show is as large as they're saying.
What bothers me....the fact that everyone acts like they were personally offended by the actions (or lack thereof) by the YF team.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 4:07pmYeah Mel Brooks has more Tonys than us all. Yeah Mel Broosk ahs more Oscars than us all. Yeah Mel Brooks may think he's the greatest person working on Broadway. But come on. I'm sure Young Frankenstein will be good. I can't wait to see it.

I agree. I don't know why people on this board are out for Mel Brook's blood. The man is a hard working creative genius.
As far as an ego. Please.. show me any actor, writer, producer, or anyone in show business that doesn't have an ego to some degree. It goes with the job... as to be sucessful, you have to do a lot of self promotion.
AS far as YF, I am looking forward to the play. The staging alone promises to be amazing.. no matter where the show ends up playing.

Posted: 4/24/07 at 4:29pmI would like to know from people who have experience, are these billboards a good promotional strategy ? I mean, other than theater fans who know about YF, how effective about creating awareness this is ? Will the passer-by be intrigued ?

Billboards are probably very effective marketing tools.
It puts your show out there for people to see. It can also generate "buzz" that get people talking about the show, and thus generate ticket sales.
There are a lot of shows competing for ticket sales, and a bill board says the show is or is about to start running.. come on and get that ticket..

Yankeefan- In response to your whole Brooks-did-something-personal thing, maybe Mel Brooks saw Fengshuihell eating a pie and just came up to him, shoved the pie in his face, and then ran off into the night. Mind you, it's two o'clock in the afternoon, but for effect the nighttime appears for Mr. Brooks to run into.
Fengshuihell, if this, or a variation of this, didn't happen to you, then you are seriously overreacting.
I am thinking that they had something planned and it fell through.

Well, I'd normally agree, but there is no name of a show on that sign, so how is the ordinary tourist supposed to know what it is advertising? Without a name, they're far more likely to forget. I'd think anyway.
