New Year's Week Performance Schedule

Hi all.

I just booked a hotel for New Years Eve week of this year (took a gamble with Hotwire and scored the Ink48 hotel for $300 less than advertised rate!). It seems that no show but Hamilton has released performance schedules for that week, and they're doing a matinee on Friday, December 30 since NYE is on Saturday. Based on past precedent, is that what most shows will probably do?

New Year's Week Performance Schedule

Last year only a couple of shows had matinees on NYE. I saw Gentleman's Guide at the Walter Kerr where they could dump us right out on 8th Ave. BOM also did one. Any thing in Times Square is a no go. A lot of shows had matinees during the week to make up for the lost shows. I saw Spring Awakening on. Tuesday. There were some 9 and maybe even 10 show weeks to milk every thing they could out of it. The King and I was the only late show on NYE, but it's at Lincoln Center. I caught an off Broadway show at the Lortel Theater so that's an option. Lazarus was also playing at NYTW so not everything shuts down.

I am usually in NYC for New Years week. Going to a show on New Years Eve can be daunting ..... this past New Years there were fewer shows open than previous years. I was at the same matinee of Gentleman's Guide.

This upcoming New Years Eve the only shows I know of that have a performance already scheduled are Hamilton and Cats on 12/31/16 at 2 pm. Regarding Friday, 12/30, there were probably be several shows that have a matinee.

Thanks for the replies! I'll actually be leaving town on 12/31. Sorry I didn't make that clearer. I'm staying from 12/27, so I'm hoping to see six shows in 4 days by catching a Friday matinee. Hopefully most shows will follow Cats and Hamilton's lead because Hamilton tix can't happen and Cats...well, no.

I usually travel to NYC during the holidays as it is also the best time to do show marathons. Keep in mind that shows still have to get 8 shows per week with Monday being the first day of the week. With Saturday being NYE, I suspect most will have a matinee on Saturday. I would anticipate most will take off New Years Day on Sunday. My guess some shows will offer a Monday night show that would normally be dark and then double up on Friday. You will probably find shows offering matinees on other days to capture the holiday crowd.

So very possible to catch matinees on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during that week to complete a great marathon.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

Many shows may even have 9 shows for the week between Christmas and New Years and will have those extra shows on various days to offer the opportunity to see many shows during the week. That's the good news. But you will not find many discounts that week because the shows don't need to offer them.

There is the link to the 2011 New Year's Week Broadway Schedule. 2011 is useful to read because that was the last time that New Year's fell on a Sunday.

You said you would like to see 6 shows in four days? I would think you could see two on the 27th, 2 on the 28th, 2 on the 29th, 2 on the 30th and 1 on the 31st! And.....you could definitely add an earlier performance of Nutcracker at Lincoln Center and Radio City Christmas Spectacular for a total of 11 shows in four days! Go for it! But don't expect any discounts---it is the highest grossing week of the year by a longshot.

Most shows will release their December tickets for sale by September or so. Playbill and BWW put out a nice list of special Christmas/New Year's week schedules, but I always create my own based on the shows I'm interested in. There are usually some mistakes in those schedules anyway.

Wow! Thank you all so much for your help! Lots of plans and decisions! Phantom, yes, I was thinking of tacking on RCCS or the Nutcracker. Thanks!
