re: New York Accent

When I'm preparing for an accent role, I watch a whole bunch of movies where the particular accent is used. There are countless ones where a New York accent is featured- off the top of my head, "Midnight Cowboy", "Angels in America", "Taxi Driver", pretty much any Woody Allen movie.... If you still have trouble, just go to the bookstore and pick up an instructional tape for the accent.

If you know the New Orleans accent it is EXTREMELY close...

re: New York Accent

Just watch the movie.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

re: New York Accent

I LOVE this show!! As a matter of fact, I've played Jay three times!!

The way I first learned a New York accent was I watched the movie. Then I went through my script and wrote things in phonetically (the way it sounded to me -- for example: "ARTY" turns into "AHTY." Just look at the way Neil Simon wrote some of "Grandma's" lines. He wrote them the way they would sound in German, to help the actress playing Grandma. You can do the same thing with New York).

Then, I proceeded to learn the script that way. If this isn't your cup of tea, you can always purchase a New York dialect tape through www.samuelfrench.com.

Also, once you start rehearsals, you can listen to the other actors' accents and that should help you.

I wish you lots of luck with this wonderful play and if you have any other questions regarding the role, feel free to PRIVATE MESSAGE me.

Funny, kooky.

Nowadays it's more like which of a hundred accents.
