New York Trip - Hotel Help

I'm looking for a very nice, reasonably priced hotel in the upper west side or midtown Manhattan area, relatively close to the theatre district but not in the noisy Times Square Area. Can someone make a suggestion?

I would highly recomend the Herald Square Hotel. It is on 31st Street just off of Broadway.10 minute walk to Times Square.Nice comfotrable rooms and a nice neighborhood.I have never had any problems in two previous stays and I will be staying there again in January.Best of all,the rooms start at $69 a night.

The Excelsior Hotel is great, and it's in the upper west side. It's close to the subway so you can just ride it right into Times Square for shows. Pretty expensive though, but really nice neighborhood and everything

last year I stayed at the Comfort Inn on the Upper West Side. Just around the corner from the Dakota. Aound 72nd. They were in the process of renovating when I was there. It was fine and resonable. Right at Central Park and some nice little restaurants down the block. Picked up a cheap breakfast sandwhich at one store. Made to order. And a nice walk to the theatre district. Just short enough not to have to take the subway.

When are you coming? That can make a huge difference om hotel prices. I have several friends who have stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania. It's across from Penn Station. It does look like a dump from the outside. However, the accomodations are clean, but VERY basic. The prices are very reasonable, and it's very close to Times Square / Theatre District.

The Wellington hotel also tends to have decent prices. It's a step up from the Hotel Pennsylvania, and is on 7th Ave btwn 55th & 56th Streets. Right at the edge of the theatre district.

Well for reasonably priced, it's not often you get very nice. What do you mean by reasonably priced?

We stayed at the Belvedere off of 48th between 8th and 9th. Great Hotel. How I found the great reviews was going back and forth from hotels.com and tripadvisor.com to see what guests of those hotels thought about them. Plus people take photos of their hotel rooms and post them on the same website. Good Luck

Wow...I just went to the site for the COmfort Inn I stayed at on the upper west side. Along with the renovations, they upped their prices. $149 to $459!

Did you try the hotels in Chelsea? Not exactly midtown, but the Savoy is pretty reasonable, if memory serves...

Belvedere Hotel is amazing and perfect for what you are looking for. It's in W 48th street, like three couple blocks from Times Square. Cheap, nice rooms and perfect location. Not a very big hotel, but we got two rooms for one something a night in April. It's amazing, choose it! Trust me, you'll love it.

I always recomend Radio City Apts. Converted apt building has modernized the elevators. The batchlors are small but all come w a kitchenette to make bkfast or snaks or a full meal if u want. NOT fancy but clean. i think the 2 bedrms go for about 160. i paid 96 for a batch i yr ago but that was aspecial off season rate. OH and check the specials on the WinterBreaks w American Express usually from Jan to end of Feb on NYCvisit.com the offical tourist site of the city.

re: New York Trip - Hotel Help

For Radio City Apartments - a studio is now $ 180 all-in, 1 bedroom is now $ 238 all-in and the 2-bedroom is now $ 320 all-in ( what I was quoted). Maybe it's the time of year when hotel prices are high. I used to stay at the Crowne Plaza but they have raised prices very, very significantly. Could be a trend, if there have been some renovations.

As far as times to visit the city, we were thinking of coming up in December, but hotel rates are ridiculous. We found some good rates Jan 5 & 6. Is the city a little quieter by then?

Yeah, it quiets down a lot (and hotel rates go down quite a bit) right after New Year's.
