Raul Esparza in Rocky.

Idina Menzel in Rent (I knew from the first belting note I'd be seeing her again.)

Norbert Butz in Rent back when he was Adam's understudy. I *hoped* he would break through and be around for a while.

Those are just my personal favorites....

Stephanie J. Block (now as Liza in Boy from Oz)

when I did a workshop at my University Campus in LA with her about 6 years ago. She belted out "Meadowlark" with fierce intentions and was the talk of the audience during intermission.

I know she's already pretty poular now, but Idina Menzel in WICKED. Don't shoot me, but I had never heard of her before I saw WICKED. Maybe that's because I rarely listened to my RENT cast recording, but that's all I listen to now!

Don't feel bad. I had never heard of her before Wicked either. Probably because I was never a fan of Rent, and I only first saw Aida last winter, and never knew she was in it until all of the buzz about Wicked started. But it is true, as soon as I saw her in Wicked I knew she was someone with great things ahead of her.

Most of the principles in the short lived, Fascinating Rhythm. In particular, Michael Berresse, Orfeh and Patrick Wilson.

Georgia Engel went on to play the supporting role of Ted Baxter's girlfriend/wife on "Mary Tyler Moore Show". Bonnie Franklin had a moronic sitcom called "One Day At A Time." The others have not made it to stardom yet.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Jake,

I still think she's waiting to be a star.

I saw Jarrod Emick as the understudy for Chris in MISS SAIGON back in '91 and thought, 'That boy's gonna win a Tony someday!'

Oh..and my absolute favorite...one hot August day in the summer of 1999, I turned to a fellow cast member in a small show I was doing in the Fringe Festival and said, 'If this show ever went off-Broadway, you'd surely get a Drama Desk nod!'

Her name: Spencer Kayden.

Maybe they are not 'stars', but I did call 'em right!

Princess Mimi, you are really sad!!! Do you live in a hermetically sealed room? Do you ever go to the theater? Do you watch TV? Bonnie Franklin was in the TV series ONE DAY AT A TIME. David Hartmen was on ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA. Georgia Engle was on the MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. Scott Wise is currently in MOVIN'OUT.

TSMrW is Patrick Wilson (Don't tell me you've never heard of him or I'll give you a cyber smack!)

TWHM is "The World's Happiest Musical" aka: HELLO, DOLLY!

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Knew they were a star!

there was one tour of ANNIE (was it the god-rest-her-soul Nell Carter one?) where "star-to-be" was none other than Sutton Foster. And the original was Laurie Beechman, i believe. Pretty prophetic, at least for "NYC" (very appropriate).
