Have the seats been in the Ochestra or Mez?

There were about 50 people the last time I was there (for a Wednesday evening), and they sold 28 tickets through the lotto. The seats were all in the orchestra.

Jeffrey2

I think on occasion they have some in the mezz, but ony if they have random single tickets not sold and decide to lotto them off. The one time i won the lotto that is what happened. I ended up with an unobstructed perfect mezaanine view, but that is not usual practice

Too bad the Newsies lottery isn't more like the BOM lottery, where you get really good seats. It seems the Newsies people are getting rid of seats no one else wants. That doesn't make me want to participate.

Wait...they should be giving you good seats for a steep discount? Really? They don't have to mane ANY tix available cheaply. By you not participating, you are making ot a tad easier fir everyone else - so they thank you.

Why should they take the good seats and sell them at a discount? Makes no.sense having people pay full price for cruddy seats

Gee, entitled much?

dramamama, I agree that expecting awesome seats from rush smacks just a bit of entitlement. But it is absolutely not unheard of for shows to offer orchestra or even front row seats to lotto winners. It helps to build a strong fan base among young people, the kind of people who will show up to enter the lottery multiple times a week. In turn, they give the show a strong social media presence, get their friends involved, and inadvertently help to dress the street outside the theater every day around lotto time. So while the producers lose some money on those front seats, the make up for it in an almost cult-like following.

Of course, no show has to make discounted tickets available - and be great seats as well - but it's not unreasonable to wish the seats they offered were better.

When Rent was at the Nederlander, their lotto (originally rush line) was $20 for seats in the front two rows. They were great seats...even greater for those of us who couldn't afford the regular price tickets. It's great just to get in, but even nicer when the seats are actually good as well.

Now at Newsies, people are paying more than that for what seem to be, more often than not, lousy seats. That kind of sucks. Especially when their fanbase are these kids who obsessed over this movie for years and played a big part in getting this musical to even happen. Would have been nice to see Disney acknowledge those fans with some better seats.

Again, they certainly don't have to. I'm sure they're making a ton of money off of those seats and good for them. But still, it kind of sucks...especially when bigger shows like Wicked and Mormon offer better seats.

I'm with dramamama on this one. I mean, paying $30 for orchestra tickets is incredible, even if it is slightly obstructed. The people next to you probably paid over $100 for their ticket.

We're not talking about selling the whole orchestra at a discount, it's just a small number, maybe 20 seats. It's a smart thing to do for all the reasons TheGirlUpstairs mentioned, and Disney can certainly afford it. And, for the record, I don't consider myself "entitled." I recently saw Newsies and paid $99 for my seat in the mezz.

How has the lotto been lately? My 2 friends and I want to try to get tickets through lotto. Has anyone been there or passed by?

Did lotto recently and the crowd was so big I couldn't hear names called. (I'm a terrible judge at estimating amount of people) but there were a lot. Someone recommended that I go to the right of the theater and line up in the "standing room" line in case we weren't called. I did just that, and lost lotto but had a place in the standing room line - and judging from where lotto seats were I probably had a better view. We had a center view of the stage and lotto seats were WAY to the side (however the overhang of the mezz blocks a small portion of the action a couple of times).

There 4 of us trying so I could go, and none of us were called. Updated On: 8/5/12 at 09:58 PM

The lotto has always been ridiculous. I would either recommend trying to get discounted tickets through TKTS or by a discount code (not sure if they still have it out?) or I would stand by the line for SRO during the lotto to make sure you'll get in if you loose the lotto.
