So what new show is going to follow in the Off-Broadway tradition of "Rent", "Avenue Q", "The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee", "Spring Awakening", "Passing Strange" and "In the Heights"?
Your thoughts...

Posted: 12/28/07 at 6:44pmI don't think Speech and Debate would do well in any theater. It is a perfect show for Off-Broadway. I think that it would get totally lost in a transfer.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 8:23pmI think Title of Show is great. But, I do think that it is one of those shows that will get lost in the transfer.

I am really curious on how are they going to mount SPEECH & DEBATE in a 'real' theater setting...IF it will transfer!
BTW- Speech & Debate is literally on a classroom setting with 67 movable chairs..
Its like going to a classroom with spotlights on the ceilings and an enclosed glass DJ booth on the left hand side of the room (for sounds & lighting techinicians) ITS BASICALLY A CLASSROOM.....
Am I the only one who wish BARE would transfer on Broadway?

"to Broadway or Off-Broadway....

That's what I thought, too. 99 or less is off-off-broadway was my understanding. then 100 to 499 for off-broadway, and 500 or more for broadway.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:00pmI too really wish they would BARE would transfer or at least reopen off-broadway. The only problem I see with it is people comparing it to Spring Awakening because both shows focus around teens and have "rock" music, and as much as I'll admit to liking Spring, I love BARE!

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:11pmI really liked Speech and Debate, but I agree, I can't see it in a big house. Part of the appeal of the show to me was the close atmosphere.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:14pmMy problem with title of show transfering to broadway is simple. It is a very small show with a small cast sets and all. I feel that it will all get lost if they transfer it to a broadway theatre.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:19pmBLACKBIRD was offerred the Kerr, but Jeff Daniels wouldn't sign on for the transfer. That show would have been totally lost in any Broadway house - it seemed like it was just taylored for a small, Off-Broadway space. Much like SPEECH and DEBATE.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:20pmI think if Speech does transfer, Circle in the Square is the theatre for it. I feel like they could really make it hip, and although it would be big....I mean, yeah the show is intimate, but I don't think seeing it from a little farther away would make it bad.
