Posted: 12/29/07 at 6:50amI'd say Next to Normal. With the rewrites it is a totally different show. Lots of new music too.

I don't think S&D would work on a full out b'way stage. Could it work BIGGER than the black box its in? Sure. 500 seats no way.
I think it would lose too much of its charm.
While I would LOVE for Bare to come back (only learned of it recently and am loving it), I think FILM would be an excellent medium for it. Think of the Fantasy scenes, Jason's hallucinations, the intercut scenes. This needs to be a movie.
But if they bring it back to NY in ANY way...I'm there.

dramamama611, I'd love a bare movie also (I've mentioned it before) and I think it'd make a terriffic film if placed in the right hands.
However, I don't think it has enough of a following to make a successful movie, one worth investing the money to make anyway. I feel like it would need a very marketed run on Broadway (or Off) to even give hope for a movie.
Oh, and [title of show] is welcome to open on Broadway whenever it pleases, as long as I'm informed. Love it.

I want GONE MISSING and THE GLORIOUS ONES to go to Broadway.
Those scores (especially GONE MISSING) need to be heard by a wider audience.

It's an Off-Broadway musical created by an acting troupe called The Civilians.
It first played in 2001, and it's been revived for a healthy run from June 2007-January 2008 at the Barrow Street Theatre.
Check out jaystarr's review of it. It's a good explanation of the piece.

Gone Missing would be great... but I've heard from people at Circle and 2ST that it's gonna be Next to Normal.
Next to Normal will transfer to Circle after it's run ends (I think) in March.

I don't buy it, though it would seem logical.
I still don't buy it.

My question is.
Why would they book a show on Broadway already ? after the off-broadway run.. its like a pre-emptied strike.. they are already assuming that it would be succesful on 23T - what if .. it gets bad reviews?
Dont off-broadway shows starts first with sold-out runs (like GG & SA) then it moves to Broadway?
Just my thought...

I would assume Second Stage is keeping tabs on the Circle in the Sqaure (and probably has a deal with the owners), since that's where Spelling Bee, their previous Broadway transfer, has played for, what, three years?
But yes, if the show's a dog (and there's no saying it won't be), I doubt a transfer would happen.

Broadway shows get booked way in advance... think of the second stage run as the same as going out of town. It's a way for them to tweak the show with an audience, and get some interest the show.
Also, it benefits the producers to do it with a non-profit like second stage. It's kinda like a free pass to a point...
