re: Next Season's Lineup

Looking forward to seeing CHITTY soaring to the night skies on Broadway!

I hope Michael Ball comes over, too!

I did see the stage production in London in 2002 - and I had a big wide grin on my face while humming the title song as I left the Palladium re: Next Season's Lineup

re: Next Season's Lineup

In chitty chitty bang bang, at the end of the 1st act, the cars flies over the audience, then turns and goes to the stars, while the main characters are on the car singing the main title.
Just amazing!

re: Next Season's Lineup

It wasn't full of flops. TBFO, Wicked, and lots of other shows (Assassins etc) are doing REALLY GREAT

re: Next Season's Lineup

And Avenue Q, of course! It's recouped its investment, after all.

I think the season started off with a lot of high-profile flops (Taboo, for example), but overall I think it's been a great Broadway season.

Looking forward to next year. Spamalot! Brooklyn! Chitty! Dracula! Even Jerry Springer!

re: Next Season's Lineup

Chitty will probably take the Tony for Best Musical, even though it will have tough competition against Brooklyn and probably Dracula. It's way too early to tell, but that's what I think.

re: Next Season's Lineup

Is Jerry Springer: The Opera eligible for Best Musical? Because it won the full gamut of awards in London (of course, it's also very British humour, but I'm sure it'll translate well over the Atlantic.)

I'm rooting for Spamalot - what a great team and cast that's been assembled for this show!

re: Next Season's Lineup

THE WITCH DOESN'T FLY! Are they really going to have the car fly through the audience? In London, does the car fly through the AUDIENCE?

re: Next Season's Lineup

A few of you seem to be ruling out 'All Shook Up' already but the work shop was great and I'm not a big Elvis fan going in and I love it, it was really funny and the way the music was arranged was great. As long as the show keeps heading in the right direction I think it has great potential for next season.

re: Next Season's Lineup

Aww...I thought it really flies re: Next Season's Lineup

You have to suspend disbelief when you see CHITTY first attempting to fly ...and when it makes its first successful attempt to flap its wings ( I mean its chassis ) - your heart lurches, too re: Next Season's Lineup

re: Next Season's Lineup

yeah, that ALL SHOOK UP cast looks great, some of my favorites.

As to LA CAGE and SWEET CHARITY, i wasn't thinking of them here in this thread, which is mainly about new musicals, or screen-to-stage adaptations of movies, musical or non.

But i'm also excited about some of the revivals like LA CAGE with Gary Beach, and the Glenn Close/Trevor Nunn LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. i even am willing to be open-minded about the Applegate/Walter Bobbie CHARITY, as long as the concept of "let's take all the dance out" has been abandoned.

re: Next Season's Lineup

I feel like I've spent far too much of my short life at these boards defending 'All Shook Up', but as usual I have to agree with PennyLou here. The cast is great, the book is hysterical, the music is well-placed and the songs make sense in the context of each scene. I have yet to hear a bad review from anyone who saw the production at Goodspeed. It gets criticized simply because of what it is, but I guarantee you'll all change your minds if you see it.

What is "Spamalot"!!!??!

Wow, I'm surprised you missed all the news on it! It's the upcoming Monty Python musical, based on "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"! And it has amazing talent lined up - Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, and directed by the one-and-only Mike Nichols!

re: Next Season's Lineup

I'm a little tired of Eric Idle rehashing all the old Monty Python stuff and figuring that he can excuse himself by actually promoting the fact that he's ripping it off. I mean, really, man, move on. The rest of the guys have (Graham all too literally, unfortunately).
I'm very excited for 12 Angry Men. It's one of my favorite shows (sorry to not discuss a musical). Did they announce who will be playing Jurors 1 and 12 yet?
