Posted: 5/23/06 at 10:22pmIt would make FAR more sense for LES MISERABLES to play The Palace. Perfect fit.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 10:23pmI know that Les Mis is playing the Broadhurst, but it would be better for the show to take a larger theatre.

I agree completely. I was very surprised to hear that Les Misérables was taking such a small theatre (the Broadhurst). I think it would have worked better in the Palace, but what can you do? They probably wanted to guarantee that they would sell out most, if not all, of the six-month run, so they opted for a smaller theatre... maybe?
OFF-TOPIC: Anyone think that this six-month run will be extended if it turns out to be a big hit? I can't see why Cameron Mackintosh wouldn't want to milk it for all it's worth if it would continue to sell.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 11:18pmI'd movie Les Miz into the Palace and maybe put Company or a smaller play in the broadhurst.

Broadway.com has group ticket sales for LES MIS on sale through
9/2/07...sounds like it will go longer than 6 months.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 11:22pmZhivago is a big production not big enough for the Palace though, maybe the Jacobs would be a good fit, the playhouse is a pretty small theater.

Posted: 5/23/06 at 11:26pmLes Mis has every intention of sticking around if they have their way. I would've stuck it in the Palace and let a smaller show take advantage of the more intimate theatre, but I guess it's too late.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 2:00amLast I heard, Twyla still wants the Palace for TTTAAC. They wouldn't sell the balcony, however. As far as I know the plans are still to move into the Atkinson, but maybe Twyla will get what she wants? Having see the show and having been in the Palace, I don't think it's a good fit, BUT, you can't really beat the location of the Palace.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 2:09amI cannot believe someone thinks Company should go into the Palace. It shouldn't go in *any* proscenium house, let alone one of the biggest.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 2:13amI thought the Palace had a great location as well, but obviously it didn't help All Shook Up or Lestat, both with fairly recognizeable names and composers.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 2:16amBut the word of mouth for them was terrible, regardless; and The Palace is huge -- you need a show that's really successful to fill it, and at the very least to fill it enough to keep a show running.

Posted: 5/24/06 at 2:25amYeah, very true, which I agree that Les Miz would be a perfect fit. And I know this probably isn't the reason, but teh Palace has a really bad marquee because it blends in so easily with the billboards around it. I don't think Twayla's show will go there. I think the Pirate Queen would be good. Regardless of Legally Blonde, I don't think it should play a big theater. Something moderatley sized like the Euguene O'Neil or Hirschfeild (sp?).

I think that Mame will do a limited season followed by Times They are A Changin or Pirate Queen
Legally BLonde isn't ready yet and to be honest i cannot see it being a hit and like The Wedding Singer will probably do, will close in a year
Tale of Two Citys will end up at The Hilton
Company could end up at The Barrymore or replace Sweeney Todd
Not sure where Pajama Game could go - but i presume they have a theatre otherwise they would not have announced they will be doing a season - i know its mentioned lots but how much longer will Chicago go on for?? Pajama Game could go in there!

Posted: 5/24/06 at 4:54pmMr. Roxy, it's only good business to get the next show booked. Why wait? I think the summer booking of Mame at the Palace is a very bad idea. Even with Lansbury, a revival of Mame was a quick fold because it opened in the summer.
