Next to Normal on Twitter.... ?

Who's following their Twitter? What the hell are they doing to get so many followers? I know they're not all legit followers. Because most of the profiles are blank with no picture. It's extremely fishy.

N2N has 108,521 followers.

And here's a list of other Broadway shows and their followers

Chicago- 421 followers
9 to 5- 425 followers
Billy Elliot - 521 followers
West Side Story- 801 followers
Hair- 1,717 followers
Tony Awards- 2,307 followers
Rock of Ages- 2,919 followers

Those are more realistic. There is no way N2N has 108,521 followers. I'd like to know what they're doing! I would love that many.

and does anyone else think their twitter is (n2n) the most stupid ever? And I love the show.

That is their real account. They may have those followers probably becuase they are pretty much telling you the entire show.

Those are not all real followers. No chance in hell. Most celebs don't have that many followers. They are doing something. Just take a look at the profiles of most of these "followers."

I noticed that as well and thought it was a little suspect. But I can't imagine anyone from the Next to Normal camp is responsible for it. I bet it's just crazy fangirls.

I don't think it's all crazy fangirls.

It is suspect though.

Their tweets suck anyway. It's a really awkward, weak attempt at selling the show to a younger audience.

I think the tweets are very funny and amusing. However, I've seen the show and get all the little jokes.

As a marketing tool, I think it's awful because people who haven't seen the show won't understand what they're about.

I follow the twitter updates for the show and it's just...awkward. It just doesn't really capture any of the feeling from the show. But it's interesting, if nothing else.


I can't even imagine how they are getting that many followers, though.

1,205 followers since last night? I don't think so . Most Broadway twitters can barely make 1,000 followers, as I posted in my original post.

That number is pretty ridiculous, as is the concept of the tweets. But that being said they are endlessly amusing and quite adorable. "HENRY - American Idol is like Aunt Helen. Obnoxious, stupid, drives you nuts, but entertaining, and u miss her when she's gone. Nat calling." hah

I get spammers that follow me all the time (I haven't looked at next to normal's followers so I have no idea if that's the case), plus I also have friends that have recently created twitters not to use, but to be able to follow certain people or shows. I'm sure that's not making up thousands of their followers but it's not unusual to see.

I don't see what's suspect about it, though? Sure, it's a little weird, but it's not like the next to normal team gets something out of having so many followers but their own personal jollies.

It absolutely is improbable. Many hollywood stars barely have 100k yet.

Let's not kid ourselves here. N2N has a cult following, it's not a blockbuster musical with a hollywood star.

Right, I understand and agree with that, I just didn't see why it mattered. If people are indeed making up accounts just to boost the following, it's lame, but it's not as if they're breaking some twitter law we should arrest them for.

I've actually just checked with the 'powers that be' since I was interested in the subject myself and the reason that they've got so many followers (and are rising so quickly) is because Twitter selected them as one of their 'suggested feeds' that are made available to new users when they sign up, so they're getting put in front of a HUGE amount of people.

I actually think it's great for future use of Twitter / social networking / BWW's unique features too that a Broadway show is getting that direct of exposure there.

The fact that they're all new users is why many don't have photos yet either... Makes sense and I'm happy to report (for once!) that it's nothing remotely fishy.
