"It's fine if that's your point of view, but you can't tag that onto something the show "claims" when it doesn't."

I think I've made pretty clear what my point of view is.

...as I said, I'm well aware of what your point of view is.

You're clearly side stepping the giant fumble you've made as the basis for your argument.

Don't say the show "claims to represent the average American family" when it's you who thinks it does. Period.

The only thing the show "claims" is that Diana views the Goodmans as "the perfect loving family." If you think that has to mean a white family, that's a big problem that you need to deal with, not anyone else.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

And what country do the Goodmans live in? I don't think its France. So the show and the music tells us they're the perfect, loving, American family. I'm so sorry for adding "average" in there. That one word, obviously, changes the basis of my entire argument? Except...it doesn't at all. You're making a big deal over what really genuinely is semantics.

I don't think it has to mean a white family, and you clearly were playing the selective reading game with my posts. I'm done defending a completely logical point to people who clearly have the reading comprehension of fourth graders.

Just how big of a moron are you?

The reason there is a huge difference between "the average American family" and "a perfect loving family" is because of what you've said in your posts (you know, the ones you allege people haven't read.)

You defended your claim that the show aims to represent "the average American family" by saying that white people are the majority in this country, which qualifies that statement based on the word "average." When that word goes out, so does the rest of your argument.

If you don't think a "perfect loving family" has to be a white family, why are you using the show as a point of merit for being a proponent of the impact of the family being white? You want to have your cake and eat it too, but it doesn't work that way.

Before you get on your pedestal and start demeaning everyone's reading comprehension, maybe you should re-examine your bigoted point of view.

I'm so tired of this. I'm not bigoted at all, and I don't come from ANYONE'S definition of the traditional American family, which is maybe why I can understand this without any difficulty, whereas you're stuck in your naive little dream world, where you can misinterpret people to continue on your brave crusade to continue being ignorant.

Maybe I'm giving the general broadway audience too much credit when I say I don't think seeing a black Diana would sway their feelings about the show lol. But anyway, I think it's an interesting argument. Certainly no one is colorblind, but that kind of casting has been done on Broadway before, and recently. The most recent I can think of is 'Les Mis'. Black Javier, Latina Fantine, Asian Cosette, etc.

I like the idea of Daniel Breaker. And Daphne Rubin-Vega, though I'm sure people would be pretty divided in their opinion of her. I can't think of anyone else at the moment that would fit.
