I will be in New York City for three days starting December 19 and need some advice, I already have some shows pre-booked but I have some openings I need to fill.  Here is my current agenda.

Tuesday: Gutenberg at 7 PM

Wednesday: Radio city music at 11am ???? If can find a good seat and ticket   you know any good discount codes?

TBD for the 2pm. Debating about seeing how to dance in Ohio or spamalot or Sweeney Todd… I thought about entering the lottery for all three and see if I get lucky or look for a discount,

Merrily we roll along at 7 PM

Thursday; Radio city music at 11am??? If did not get day before

Harmony at 2 PM and Kimberly Akimbo at 7pm

Friday : Harry Potter or wicked matinee only   I’m going to enter the digital lottery for both and see if I win if I don’t, then I will probably just purchase Harry Potter.   Any codes?

Fly out that night at 7pm

If your flight is at 7pm, it is a little bit risky going to a show since you are supposed to be at airport two hours before flight. I am sure all NYC airports will be nuts next week (especially TSA lines) and the traffic getting there could be crazy also. Good luck!! I loved "Harry Potter" but I saw it when it was two shows.

I would see Sweeney Todd or How To Dance In Ohio. You  will get a ticket more likely for Ohio (new deal that all tickets remaining on the day of are $50)

I would definitely see Wicked (if you haven’t seen Harry Potter, then choose to see that instead)

That brings up a good point… Originally, my flight was at 8 PM, but I got changed to 7:15 PM

both shows would let out at 5 PM and then I would make my way to the airport. I was gonna take my luggage with me. I’m wonder if I’m risking it too much and I should just change and fly home earlier in the day and just be happy with the shows I’m seeing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

QVC seems to have the best discount code for the Rockettes, or at least with the most dates applicable, including the dates you are looking for.

Code: QVCDIGITAL

You can check the TKTS live availability on the website - if you check it on Tuesday & you can buy next day matinee tickets that day there. The Lincoln Center location is the way to go if you have time to walk up there. This includes the Rockettes as well.

This is peak season so locking in your tickets might provide more peace of mind, but it’s a good point of comparison  https://www.tdf.org/discount-ticket-programs/tkts-by-tdf/

There are no facilities at theaters as far as I know where you can leave your luggage (I think the coat room is only for coats).  An 8:00 PM flight would have been a stretch, I would not try a 7:15 PM flight after attending a matinee.  Everyone and their mother will be leaving town at that time.  The trains and the roads will be packed, nevermind the airport itself...

Friday 12/22 has some better alternatives time wise.

The final Sondheim musical "Here We Are" starts at 1pm and is 2 hours 20 minutes.

2pm matinee for "I Need That" and the show is only 100 minutes so you would get out before 4pm.

There is also a 2pm matinee for "Danny and The Deep Blue Sea" but tix are expensive but it is only 80 minutes long.

No codes, but if you enter the Friday Forty digital lottery (TodayTix app) and don't win, keep your eyes open for a possible notification of a seriously discounted $49 offer for the same performance that you did not win. We got that in August, seats were very good, Row N side orchestra.

IIRC, you would have to enter the lottery by 1pm today (12/15) for all performances next week. Winners are drawn Friday afternoon between 1-5pm.

But echoing what others here have already said, seeing a Friday matinee and then hoping to make a 7pm plane is very, very problematic at best.

HERE WE ARE  that’s a great option, I did not see that listed to be playing, but I just did research, and that would solve a lot of my problems… I actually don’t know anything about about that show but I’m reading about it

I wonder if there’s any marttineson Tuesday the 19th because I land at 11 AM

If you can't leave your luggage at your hotel & pick up on your way to your flight, there is a site called Luggage Hero which offers luggage storage around Times Square.  I haven't  used it, but it looks like it uses various souvenir shops etc in the area who will rent you space short-term.  Maybe someone else here has used it & can comment?

Also, after rereading the original post, I realized we will both be at the same performance of Harmony.

Is this a show like Beetlejuice where audience members dress up I cosplay?  I'll be the 50 year old guy from Vancouver dressed up as an 80 year old man from Brighton Beach - somehow the fashions are identical! LOL!

I managed to get good Rockette 11 am tickets the day before at Times Square TKTS. I did the lottery for for Harmony but probably could have done the day of 18 at $18. Sounds like you have a great lineup.

No Broadway shows have a Tuesday matinee, but there is a Rockettes show at 2pm that day.

If you’re not due to land until 11, then have to deplane, go to baggage claim, then catch some mode of transportation into the city…I wouldn’t bank on being to your hotel much before 1-2 at the earliest. And that’s ruling out a lunch break. Give yourself time to relax and don’t try to cram much into Tuesday afternoon. Between the normal workday crowds and traffic, and the holiday tourists, you’ll be glad that t you gave yourself the extra time.

I've used it to check bags at one of the large souvenir shops on 7th Avenue. It's a little pricey (seems like it was about $25, including a tip that I'm not sure was necessary, to check two backpacks for a day), but it was a very smooth process. I've done it a couple of times and would do it again if the situation called for it.

Thank you everybody I tried the lottery for Harry Potter and I lost, I think I’m just gonna fly home early on that Friday to avoid the drama at the airport.

I just entered the lotto for Spamalot online and I’m gonna try to do the lottery for how the dance and Sweeney Todd when it opens for that Wednesday matinee performance

Update

just to share I did use that code for the Rockettes and it worked great I decided to go to the box office to save money and I just did it the day before and I got a great seat for $80 about 20 Rows Back Center

I did not win any of the lotteries, but I went to the box office for Sweeney, and I got a great deal on a single last minute

i’m now debating about my Thursday night. Currently, I have a free ticket for Kimberly, because when I was here months ago, they had the understudy for the main lead, and they offered everybody a free ticket   However I’ve seen the show and I’m wondering is it really worth it to see it again with the actual lead actress or should I run over and see something I’ve never seen before like shuck

You know better than I do whether you want to see Kimberly Akimbo again. Victoria Clark gives an excellent performance. Free is a good price. But if I were you, I would try to see another show.

Of the ones you mentioned that I’ve seen…

Shucked is a light, cute show with some good performances and several fun songs. Jokes are a mile a minute. Some hit, others don’t.

Here We Are is different from the other Sondheim shows you’ve seen. The second act is mostly a play with music. It’s a very well-performed and directed show with a stellar cast. It’s funny and surprising and very weird at times, especially if you are unfamiliar with the surrealist Luis Bunuel films on which they’re based. (You don’t need to have seen them.)

Depends on your mood. Shucked will tour. Here We Are won’t..

It really depends on your mood and desire to see Kimberly Akimbo with Clark.

Is she that good?  it’s a great show, I thoroughly enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but I was just rethinking things as I was walking around today,

And by the way for those that were curious, I did change my flight on Friday and I’m going home early just so I can avoid all the airport drama

I think you made a wise choice. Airport drama around the holidays is hellish.

If you really liked Kimberly Akimbo and don’t have a strong desire to see anything else, seeing Clark for free isn’t the worst plan. I didn’t even like the musical overall, but Clark is very good. Good enough to see the show again? Only you can decide.

Victoria Clark is great but she (and several other cast members) were out on Wednesday. You might want to see if you can find out if she will be on when you are planning to go. If you decide to see something else, I thought Shucked was very fun! I was surprised how much I liked it!
