After launching his smear campaign against the show and John Lloyd Young, now he's backtracking so he can suck up to the Dodgers and any related publicists. He's such scum and it's probably killing him that they won in spite of his best efforts. Revenge is sweet.

"Audiences do, too - the show grosses $1 million a week and is on track to be one of the most successful musicals of all time."
Of all time?
The most successful musical of all time is (and i hate to say it) The Phantom of the Opera. Jersey Boys is not going to run for 18+ years.

Who knows. It strikes me as the next Mamma Mia (only better) and that has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide and is still selling out all over the world. I could see Jersey Boys running 10+ years and spawning dozens of international companies so who knows.

Hm, maybe so. I just found his wording strange. I don't see this show as being up there with Les Miz and Cats and Phantom as the longest running shows, etc. I hope I get to see it in December. Updated On: 6/12/06 at 11:51 AM
Cats was one of the worst shows I ever saw. Thank heavens for Jersey Boys. It entertains. I hope it runs longer than Cats.
Cats only have nine lives.
I don't want to toot my own horn but I got almost every award right except I thought Dale would win. I had more than RIEDEL and have every year.
My favorites always seem to win. All but two this year.
Fields and Barnett.
PASSION VS POWER

there's a difference between "longest running" and "most successful" and it has to do with $. that's why they call it show business.
and riedel's only agenda is to create or report controversy which in turn sells papers.
I know. And he was there and I was sitting with my Mom.
Don't get me started. I am BITTER!
Sad that POWER will beat PASSION every single frickin time.

Corine, I've searched the Corner and can't find your pre-Tony predictions anywhere!

I don't like how he bashes Wedding Singer, but I still read his column.
I never posted them on my site, Namo.
Long story.
i didn't post mine either, but i went 17 for 17 and anna paquin tooted on my horn while harvey serenaded us with a rousing rendition of accentuate the positive.

That's nothing! I predicted every single award winner, as well as the presenters and the order in which they appeared! No one could believe it.
I predicted what everyone would wear!
i predicted that namo and addy would make those predictions.
"...his smear campaign."
What a poorly funded and brief campaign. He could have been far worse if he really wanted to "smear" them. His blurb about Jersey Boys winning the Tony had more to do with reporting what actually happened then attempting to suck up to anyone.

F*** Him!!! When is this person finally going to get fired? A republican homophobe working for the theatre community, who wishes people to shut down their productions and it's rude to actors, producers, etc. on camera. Horrible!
he'll get fired when people stop giving him dirt. until then, people will bitch and moan and his column will still generate thread after thread as well as the usual question most wednesdays and fridays, "did you see riedel's column?"
The sad thing is he is a really nice guy when you chat with him and I think he is really cute.
Whatever! Susan, if you are reading this please smack him.
HEH!
He kind of looks a bit like Rod in this picture. Ahhh!

After falsely claiming that JLY is not singing 100% of the show, for him to now praise his performance is not only sucking up, it is hypocritical and an insult to his readership, for he is acting as if no one read or remembers his negative statements about the very same performance.
Remember, Riedel is not a theatre reviewer or critic...he is a gossip columnist and as such his job it to try and whip up some controversy to keep up interest in Broadway.
Yes, it is a pragmatic approach but unfortunately we live in a age where just being a great play or musical isn't enough...people want dish.
In a way that is what fuels this message board.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

How come he didn't mention Ring of Fire? Is he prejudiced against country music?
For the record, I do not believe he has ever taken back his thoughts about JLY getting backup help. He mentioned this jokingly on the A&E show yesterday morning.
"there's a difference between "longest running" and "most successful" and it has to do with $"
True, but in this case, Phantom is both the longest running and most successful musical.
