As mentioned earlier, the cast of Xanadu.. the touring cast of Wicked, (especially Clifton Hall)
I was most shocked by Megan Mullaly, while in Young Frankenstein. I heard from fans who had seen the show that she either didn't come to the SD or was rude. The night I went happened to be one of the coldest nights of the year, snowing, raining and a HUGE line of devoted fans out the door and wrapped around the theater. She waited until EVERY fan had an autograph and a picture.
Laura Bell Bundy was deathy ill when I saw her performance last year, and the guards announced she wouldn't be coming out. She did however come out, whispered to her fans, because her voice was SHOT, signed autographs but refused to take pictures. She was still very nice and through a muffled voice, told me she liked my dress and thanks for coming.
The cast of Farnsworth Invention was incredibly nice, too. Hank Azaria, especially.
Andddd... my favorite Stage Door experience with a nice actor.. had to be the incredibly adorable Trevor Braun, who was an understudy of Flounder in Little Mermaid. He told every fan that he was 8 years old, he appreciated them coming and offered to sign EVERYTHING they had. My friend was holding a baseball hat and a book and Trevor said "It's so nice to meet you. Would you like me to sign that hat and book?" We cracked up. (Not to his face, obviously.) But he is a sweetheart.
Cherry Jones is probably the sweetest woman on the face of the earth. My friend and I were the only ones waiting for her after a performance of the Doubt tour at the Colonial in Boston. She came out and couldn't have been sweeter, just standing and talking to us about being theater students and about the play. In the midst of talking to us she noticed that I had about five or six PLaybills in my hand, which were just a some extras I'd gathered to save on my way out of the theater, and asked if I'd like her to sign them. I said that of course I didn't expect her to sign all of those and that I'd just collected them to take home. She insisted though, signing each of them as she continued to converse with us, and seeming to get quite the kick out of it.
I've met her twice. Sweet as pie both times.
I should also add Jenna Russell, Daniel Evans, Kelli O'Hara, and Terrence Howard to my list. Yes, Terrence Howard. That man stayed and made sure that everyone in that ridiculous mob scene that wanted one got a picture and an autograph. He even had a girl in the back who couldn't reach walk around to the other side of his SUV and he signed for her before jumping into the car.
