I think that Maggie and Krystal were the best in their respective roles ever since idina and daphne. i loved them both. Krystal's light my candle and out tonight were unforgettable.
Onto nightmare casting... Joey Fat one as mark, anyone? as if the mark costume sans jacket wasn't skintight already.
Ah yes thats right. They look similar. Was Julia Santana that awful Mimi I'm thinking of? They never let her do it in NYC did they?

She'd be the one, yes. They never let her, thank god.
Yeah, Julia Santana was really quite bad.
My wife and I saw that company probably 30 times between the two of us and we FREQUENTLY prayed for a Mimi understudy.
Who was that girl that opened the show as Mimi in London and who they brought to the US but fired because she really was a cracked out diva? That's not Krystal Washington is it, because I heard this chick was AMAZING, just crazy.

I'm wondering vaguely why people are saying Jessica Simpson as a possible okay Maureen. Personally, I think she can sing okay, yes, but she can't belt some of those notes like the other Maureens.
Justin Timberlake is my ultimate nightmare.
Krysten Cummings.
She actually was the original Candadian Mimi before going onto London.
She is also on the soundtrack for The Fix.
Does nobody else think that Mel B. (aka Scary Spice) was not also a nightmare? I saw it and it was TERRIBLE!
I once saw someone suggest Kelly Clarkson as Maureen and a part of me died inside.
Jessica Simpson would be awful as Maureen, she can't sing without her breathy voice, which compared to Idina at her worst makes Jessica sound like a emphezima patient; she can't act anything but dumb blonde and is too mainstream to make a believable lesbian performance artist.
Basically any mainstream pop artist that relies too much on the magic of studios to make them sound like good singers. Especially since the majority of them can barely sing, let alone act.
I couldn't stand manley pope as roger. It seemed that he was acknowlegding the audience more than mark. Actually Joey Fantone as mark that night was far better than pope's roger. And then this is the oppsite of this thread (from another cast) but seycon's mimi was great.

actually if I recall correctly, Jessica Simpson was actually being considered for the role of Maureen - but her role in the Dukes of Hazard film prevented her from auditioning . ..

Krysten Cummings was a fantastic Mimi; Having seen Marcy Harriel as Mimi on B'way (who seemed too old even then!) to get KC was a real thrill.
'Cracked Out Diva' ? In what way? Do tell?

Yes, I have have an audio of him. Can you say - EWFJrvb/kle:cjrb/rSPfbfygh?
Didn't think so.
AS FAR AS MY NIGHTMARE:
I don't think I can share.
But let's just say...GAH, I can't.
It's too SCARY.
"'Cracked Out Diva' ? In what way? Do tell?"
Don't want to spread rumors, but apparently, she was definitely a method actor when it came to Mimi.
ha ha - joey Fat One. hilarious. but i actually thought that he was not the worst one up there - manely's acting was pretty bad. karmine was great, and dominique was fantastic as maureen. manley was the only slacker up there.
by the way - aren't there some rent people in the film as extras? i heard that one of the alers sisters was in costume onset in Cali - does anyone know anything about this?
amen, orangeskittles.
Think about it - can Jessica Simpson take on roles that are a stretch for her? Especially a wild lesbian? Has the eff word ever escaped her lips? Of all of the roles in the show, Maureen seems to be the most hardcore, down-and-dirty type role. Sure, it would boost sales, but ugh...that is definitely a nightmare of mine.
My friend saw a performance of Rent where Mark Richard Ford (the Collins at the time) left after the first act, and the understudy forgot to say his "it's over" at the end of contact. THAT is what I call a nightmare. You can't forget one of the most crucial lines of the show!!
i really liked the following [whom some of y'all mentioned as bad]: Carrie Hamilton, Julia Santana, Krystal Cummings and to some extent Kirk McDonald. guess it's all a matter of opinion, but since i've seen the show sooo many times [75+] i was looking at their performances from a different angle and saw the good points!
Yeah, I saw Kirk McDonald's first performance as Mark and he wasn't terrible. However, it went downhill from there and I think he got worse every time I saw him.
I've seen it 50+ times and could point out good qualities about all of those people, but that isn't the point of the thread.
That being said, Krysten Cummings was fabulous as Mimi, she just had some personal issues.
Ryan Starr as Mimi...*Shudder*
Yeah, you might be able to make a nightmare cast of Rent just by using American Idol contestants:
Mark: John Peter Lewis
Roger: Constantine Maroulis
Mimi: Ryan Starr
Collins: George Huff
Angel: Mario Vazquez
Maureen: Mikalah Gordon
Joanne: Jennifer Hudson
YIKES!
The original London Maureen gave apparently an either love it/hate it performance. She was certainly bizarre looking in the role...
Jessica Tezier.
Yeah, I never saw her, but I have heard some clips and I didn't care for her much.
The notion of Mikalah as Maureen is enough to make me twitch.
Jessica Tezier was also fired from the London cast, in a rather underhand way I might add.
Really? I thought she left the show due to illness?
Did she get fired because she was sick? (which is really underhanded)
