"I attended a showing of Shrek to see sutton [sic] ..."
And I waited an unusually long time for my dinner to arrive at my tsble at a restaurant last night. What's your point? The aerials are at the core of this show. To dismiss the significance of the aerials is ridiculous at best, stupid at wosrt.
When Wicked has a no fly day, the ensemble's choreography is changed on the fly to simulate Elphaba rising above the crowd. It's not as impressive as the actually rising mechanism with the full cape, but it is at least a substitute for the same experience.
When Spider-Man doesn't fly in Spider-Man, there is no substitute. I can't even imagine how they did the Green Goblin battle with Spider-Man onstage and The Green Goblin flying over the audience. Way to make the best part of the show now work at all.
And copping an attitude because some people might not have the opportunity to come back in the next two weeks? That's awful. Comparing it to not seeing a specific actor in a musical? That's stupid. You aren't paying to see an actor, you're paying to see a performance. Sutton's scenes weren't cut or altered in a way that detracted from the show because she was out. Cutting half the flying sequences from Spider-Man, including dropping half the big battle sequence, DOES change the impact of the show. It makes it a completely different show. It would be like a production of Peter Pan saying only Wendy would fly that night; Peter Pan would walk in through the bedroom door and hang on her ankles to take them to Neverland.
I was there last night and was disapointed that most of the flying was cut. The only flying over the audience was done by the Green Goblin. Spiderman did swing around on the stage but that was it in regards to flying. They offered to give you tickets to another performance but for people like me who are leaving saturday and have a show already booked for today- what can you do? But givin all the accidents that have happened in the show i would imagine they are pretty cautious when it comes to flying. But i must say it did feel like the whole Green Goblin flying scene was really odd considering they had this spiderman voice recording going but Spidey's appearnce was few are far between. Also Reeve wasent lowered down but walked on to the stage for the curtain call.
Well, I'm seeing SPIDERMAN on the last day of my trip, 7/17. IF the flying is not working that day, I can tell you I will be out of there with my refund and going to see another show.
OR I guess I could just go back home, book another flight, get another hotel room, and return to the show within 14 days, right LegallyB. You are clueless . . .
But what made things worse was we were infront of a german group of people who insisted on talking loudly in their lanuage over the show. i mean, it was literally like they were translating the show word for word to each other. Some people just don't know how to whisper.
German tourists are always the worst at stuff like this. Had the same thing when I saw The Fantaskicks a few years ago! When I asked them to stop, I got such a "How Dare you?" attitude from them!

<>i mean, it was literally like they were translating the show word for word to each other.
Really? Was it literally like that?
Yes, i have NEVER in my life experiance anything near as bad. sure you get some people behind or in front of you who talk ever once in awhile but they literally talked through the whole thing untill an usher finally came over and told them to stop. i kept turning around and staring at them but that didn't work. It wasent the fact that they were talking- it was the fact that they were soo loud. in fact, they were just as loud as the people on the stage- it took all i had in me to not turn around and yell "Shut the hell up!!!" LOL

It's hard to believe they literally talked that much!
FindingNamo...sorry, but isn't this a rare occasion where the word "literally" actually DOES make sense?
your right- but it's true. They stopped pretty much after the usher told them too- but not competley.

They literally stopped?
If I was at that show and that happened, I would expect a full refund. This show is not in previews. People are paying to see a finished product and a full length production. This is different than having a few understudies or a crackley mic.
^bwayphreak234: I ENTIRELY AGREE. I went to Spider-Man to see him fly above my head. And for that epic battle sequence. No flying? No Spider-Man.

Yeah, but ever since this show began, if an actor broke a nail there would be countless haughty posts about how the show should be stopped. Remember Jennifer Damiano's webcam interview? "She's not looking at the camera! What's she hiding? Clearly, she wants off the show!" "I saw a child yawn!" "A man checked his watch!" Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc.
LegallyBroadway2 is just mocking that attitude and I agree with him.

Spiderman was halted tonight during the last flight scene as one of the green goblin's wires got caught on the set. They had to reset and after a 10 min delay restarted from the next scene.

uhohhhh what piece was caught? is the set okay? eek
I'm kind of amused at the idea that not many left when the announcement was made so presumably they shouldn't be very upset.
The point is that if you've planned for months, made a trip to NYC, and bought very expensive tickets to the show (perhaps the whole reason for the trip as it often is), of course, you're not going to get up and go. But you'd have every reason to be upset and logically would be!

Sorry for the delay in responding but just got back to the UK. One of the Green Goblin's wires got caught on the Chrysler Building. 2 men with hooks on long poles came on stage to release the wire. They were obviously prepared for it.
