Can you put up the email so we have proof?
I'm sure there'll be plenty to go around. More complete too!

just email her again if you don't believe it.
They should film it for DVD. Or PBS. Or something!
Oh, geez...is there NOW going to be an enslaught of demands for a PBS recording on EVERY ****in' show from this day on?
Oy!
Um...no.
I'm simply saying that there other means of preservation besides a CD.
Wow.
Why not if they're good shows?

Yes, Brody, and even after someone e-mails PBS and posts the reply that they won't be doing so, people will still insist it should be done.
If it does go to London (which looks likely).. there will probably be a recording.
Patti returned an e-mail I sent her and said that a West End show is more than likely.
I do wish they would record it with this cast. I'll be glad to have ANY cast recording with Patti as Rose, but the rest of the cast was so pitch perfect, I'd love to have them recorded too.
Ah well.

I'm suprised there won't be one. If they record it now, they could sell it in London when they do the London run.
As much as I enjoyed Patti in the role, to me what makes this production so thrilling is the fact that every single role is perfectly cast to the point that to me it almost felt like an ensemble piece with LuPone being the obvious center of the ensemble. It is just so uniformly good.
How can Leigh Ann Larkin and Laura Benanti's showstopping rendition of "If Momma Was Married" go unrecorded? Or how can the exhilarating "You Gotta Get a Gimmick" as performed by the hilarious Marilyn Caskey, Alison Fraser, and Nancy Opel not be preserved? And that last chill-inducing "for me" during "Rose's Turn" cannot die when the show closes on Sunday.

Pedro Cruz- I do not think it is a good idea to post your full name on the board.

That's exactly how I felt about this Gypsy. The entire cast is perfection. I have seen many versions, including the Mendes 2003 revival with Bernadette Peters. This one gave me chills and made me cry at the end. That's never happened before. Patti LuPone and company struck sparks. And Laura Benanti is the best Louise I have ever seen. What warmth and rapport with the audience during her transformation. She sparkled with star wattage.

So how much cash needs to be raised to make this cast recording a reality?
$200,000?
ijay889 where are you getting the idea that its going to London from??? It didnt do the greatest of biz the last two weeks in NY. Its never been popular on stage in the UK. The original with Angela Lansbury ran less than a year and The Tyne Daly production was pulled in the 90s. No one in London is talking bout it comeing to London.
Most people attached to the production have been rumoring about a London transfer (rumors that started since LuPone did the show at Ravinia), even the New York Times profile about LuPone mentioned that there are tentative plans to take the show to the West End so Ljay is not making anything up.
Im connected to a number of production offices here and no one here has heard the slightest mention of a Gypsy comeing to London. At the moment weare working on up to 10 shows right thru till spring 08 with no mention of Gypsy. Dont get us wrong WE WANT Gypsy here but as i said it doesnt have a good history in the UK

I'm pretty sure that I read a blurb that Ghostlight records was interested in recording LuPone's GYPSY.
it would be no trouble im sure to record it live!
I hope it comes to London but as i said i doubt it.

HERE IS AN E-MAIL FROM INSIDE THE CITY CENTER IN REGARDS TO A LUPONE GYPSY CAST RECORDING...IT'S NOT GOOD NEWS KIDDOS!!

This is what I tell people:
“Due to the cost of making a cast recording, we are unable to record the productions ourselves; whether or not a City Center show gets recorded depends on whether a record company or producer expresses interest in doing so, as has happened so far with eleven Encores! shows. If a decision is made to record this production, it will be announced on our website and once released, the CD will be available at the City Center Boutique during our productions.”
Thanks!

...so dont release it as a cd, just record it live & podcast the show!!!!
that way, people all over the world can enjoy!!!

A London production is 100% on the cards.
My no means is it "in coming" but plans are being made. As most people know it takes more than a whiff of a magic wand to transfer a production - expect more concrete materical and PR to be released towards the end of the year/beginning of next. It could all dewindle away, but from source from the producers and many houses showing keen interest, I would be very confident we will see this production of Gypsy in London next year.
I hope rumours of it going to The National for a limited season are true ahead of possibly into the deep woods of the west end are true.
