There will be a new complete recording with Patti- according to the producers- made this month or the beginning of April on Time Life.

Posted: 3/10/08 at 12:13pmA London production would make sense if it wins Best Revival, Actress and Featured Actress and Actor at the Tonys and preserves the cast in the transfer.

If this does go to London they should go to the national first see how it goes. If it goes well then transfer it to the West End.
I do hope that this is going to be recorded too.

Hi Everyone,
Last night was the Sondheim Conversation with Frank Rich here in SF. Sondheim himself did say that there will be a new recording.
Somoene else posted some notes on Talkin Broadway...and these are some highlights:
Read the bootm of the 3rd paragragrah!
Sondheim didn't really want to write a song called "Company" because it doesn't rhyme with anything ('bump any??') However, Hal Prince insisted he write an opener that introduced every character and was named after the show's title. Furthermore, the song needed to accommodate the time it took the actors on the upper level to take the elevator down to the stage to all coagulate in the middle. Sondheim explained that's why the word "love" is held for so long because they needed time for the 29-second elevator ride.
There are off-and-on talks about doing Into The Woods with puppets (the animals).
Mama Talkin' Soft was intended to be staged with little June & Louise overlooking a room where Rose was singing Small World to woo Herbie. However, the June actress was afraid of heights and couldn't do the song 8' up. He had to cut the number, but pieces of it can still be heard in Rose's Turn. Sondheim revealed this song will be recorded as a bonus in the upcoming revival recording.
Sondheim thinks it's easy to think Bobby is gay because gays are stereotyped for their fear of commitment. However, he reiterates the show is about a heterosexual's lack of commitment. He doesn't like the new lines added back into the show about Bobby's gay experience.
Sondheim's favorite "trashy" show: The Wiz (seen 6 times). He also loved Taboo.
SO, there WILL BE a recording!

Thank you, DrTheatre!
Without an official press release or confirmation from a label, every bit of info regarding a recording is comforting and exciting.

Yeah, I mean it's not an official press release, but we can bet that they are planning on having one..at least Sondheim thinks so...

What are you talking about Mattbrain??? I think you HAVE to bother looking at the date of the original post because Patti said there would not be a recording of Gypsy while it was at City Center. Now that it has moved to broadway it is getting a cast recording. SO NOBODY WRITE ON THIS THREAD ANY MORE!!! because everytime I see it I think it's new and I get upset as I'm sure other people do.
