Early versions of the Narrator in Rocky Horror were a singing role- the character is jokingly referred to as "Mr. Bass Man" in early vocal scores, and was expected to sing a few lines in a comically deep 1950s bass in "Time Warp," "Once in a While" and "Science Fiction Reprise."

Isn't the Narrator in SpongeBob the disembodied, recorded voice of Tom Kenny impersonating Jacques Cousteau, and not a character onstage?
Similarly complicated: in Waitress, the character of Jenna's mother is a mute dance/mime role, but her "voice" recurring in Jenna's memory is provided by the recorded and multitracked voice of Sara Bareilles.

IIRC Demitri Weisman is the very first person to sing in FOLLIES during BEAUTIFUL GIRLS opening number.
