Just being nosey. Which On Location tour did you book? I haven’t been to NYC as often as you, but I’ve been often enough that I’m also interested in new stuff to do. I’m adding the Frick as a possibility for my next trip. Thanks.

We booked the TV/Movie tour. I was suprised my son didn't chose the Superhero tour, but I'm sure this is the one I'll enjoy more.
Even though I don't consider myself a tourist (I grew up in Jersey and am in the city almost every month) - it's always a struggle to fill the day while in the city. Whether we're spending the night or just a looong day. Being away from home, it seems odd just to hang in the hotel in between shows and such. You try to balance activity with spending but it's not easy.

Theater-wise were' seeing Head over Heals and Desperate Measures!
Thanks again, folks!"
Which tour at the Tenament Museum has air conditioning? My mom will be in town July 4-8, she really wanted to do something there but then decided against it because neither of us do very well in the heat.

From their website:
Is the Museum air conditioned?
The Tenement Museum is not completely air-conditioned. The following spaces/programs are air-conditioned:The Museum Shop and Visitor Center, theater, and the classrooms and private event spaces at 103 Orchard; Meet Victoria Confino; Shop Life; and Tasting at the Tenement. The other areas of the building are cooled using fans. All visitors are permitted to drink bottled water on their tour to help beat the heat.

I'd also highly recommend Museum of the Moving Image in Queens (it's a short ride on the R train from Times Square). Perhaps you want something different for this trip since you already have one film and TV tour, but this provides a great history of cinema with all kinds of cool props, costumes, other artificats from tons of famous movies (and has great air-conditioning on a summer day).

NYC is great for foodies and for those who like to try different cuisines. When I was in college, we didn’t have disposable income to travel so instead we just tried different ethnic cuisines in nyc. Just google any cuisine and you’ll most likely find at least one restaurant in nyc that you may not have in your hometown. Prices vary but for the most part is quite affordable.
The Morgan Library used to have dinner in their museum restaurant that featured early 20th century nyc cuisine (same types of foods JP Morgan would have eaten back then) which I thought was pretty cool.

^It's a great museum, we've been there a few times - hopefully someone else will benefit from your mention of it.

The Washington Post had a feature today on new things to do in Times Square

I'm glad we're not the only ones sitting on our hotel room waiting for curtain some days.
(Sooo many visits. Almost as bad as when a favorite cousin lived in LA and everyone would visit and want to see Disneyland. She claimed that eventually she started developing a thing for one of the pirates of the Caribbean.)

^Whew, Mark, glad I'm not the only one. I don't mind when I go by myself -- I'll sit in a cafe, the hotel, whatever, and just read. (Or grade papers during the school year) With my teenage son, it's a little different as I'm trying to get him AWAY from his phone/video games!
And THANKS for that article. The National Geographic Ocean Odyssey sounds great, and right in the neighborhood. Heads up: they are offering a 2 for 1 sale for this week only. (Which is why we decided to go for it!)

I know OP has already spent those days, but for anyone else there this summer:
Heavenly Bodies exhibit at the Met 5th AND Met Cloisters is to die for. It is basically in three parts. The Vatican items are downstairs in the Costume Institute rooms. In the Byzantine and Medieval galleries on the main floor you will find about 60-65% of the modern clothes, with the other 30-35% being at the Cloisters. Fort Tryon Park looks beautiful right now so it is worth the stroll from the 190th St. station to the Cloisters.
There is also a really fantastic and fascinating Norman Rockwell-focused exhibit at the New York Historical Society, in addition to several other smaller exhibits. This is always a great stop.
As for the R & H at the NYPL branch at Lincoln Center, it was mainly artwork and posters, pretty small. Not worth a special trip but if you are near LC or Columbus Circle, check it out. On the walls both downstairs and upstairs. The main exhibition space was closed as they were between installations. (I was there in late June.)

Just a recap for those interested
1. Didn't love (or hate) Head Over Heels. Just didn't work for us.
2. Desperate Measures was adorable.
3. TV/Movie Tour was really nice. Great guide, nice mix of fact, trivia, sites and media.
4. National Geo Odyssey was really great. Fun, interesting and informative. Highly reccommend.
5. Tenement Museum was great, too. The group was small and they look to get you involved which is nice.
Some fab food too: standouts being Russ & Daughters and Butter.

I ate at Butter for first time two weeks ago right before I saw Skintight at the Laura Pels Theatre (super close proximity). I loved Butter. I’ll be back.
I’ll have to check out Russ and Daughters.
