#1Now they're doing THEMED shows on GYTOTIW
Posted: 1/30/07 at 6:07pmFor those of you who DON'T know what GYTOTIW is, it's an acronym for "Grease: You're the One That I Want." Anyhoo, apparently, when Sir Lloyd Webber comes to guest judge on the show two weeks from now (It IS two weeks from now and not next week, right?), the theme of next week's show is going to be songs composed by him. Oh, no!! American Idol did Broadway songs once and massacred them with their s*****y arrangements of the songs. I hope that they stick to the original orchestrations of the shows that they are from.

Posted: 1/30/07 at 6:20pmI'm only watching because my friend and someone who graduated from my school last year are on it...it's an atrocity. Half of the people are gonna sing "Think Of Me".

Honestly, I think that's a vast improvement over the horrible song choices of last Sunday....and I am certainly not the biggest ALW fan on the planet.
And, yes, it is two weeks, not next week.

Well, they have 13 weeks they have to fill up: so it only makes sense that they have theme weeks: there are only so many 50s songs you can keep trotting out.
First everyone was complaining that they weren't performing Broadway music, and now people are complaining because they are doing ALW? Please. What do you want? Sondheim week on GREASE?

Posted: 1/30/07 at 7:05pmI'm excited. I just worry for the song choices for the males - none of ALW's songs really scream "Danny" to me. As long as no one sings Music of the Night...

Posted: 1/30/07 at 7:10pmThere's always the "Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows)" from Joseph. That's perfect for the men to sing because it's a 50's parody.

I re-read the article on playbill - and it says only half of the contestents will be singing ALW songs - the others will be singing another musical theatre song.

Most of those song choices for the ALW songs are too old: I think you'll be seeing "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him" before you see "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and "As if We Never Said Goodbye..."
Other natural Broadway choices for "Grease" auditioners would be songs from LITTLE SHOP, HAIRSPRAY, and BYE BYE BIRDIE. I really don't think we're going to see AVENUE Q...

Posted: 1/30/07 at 8:34pmSomething tells me that one of the Sandys is going to warble out "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again". As long as it isn't "Emotional Sandy" Ashley A, I'll be happy though I can't really see any of them being able to handle the song. I do hope one of Dannys sings "Music of the Night" because I think there are a few who can do it justice (now watch, one of the few Dannys who can't will sing it).

Diane: Aww, you are such a chick flick. I would totally pay $12 to see you. (Kristin Chenoweth on "Ugly Betty") http://musicalangel12.blogspot.com <-- my blog. Give it a read, please.

Posted: 1/30/07 at 8:51pmOn the show two weeks from now, I believe. I'm happy to hear that half will be ALW songs, that will not be so bad (I hope).

Posted: 1/30/07 at 10:29pmI wish they'd allow the contestants to choose their own pieces, even if they so restrict it to within a specific theme each week. Most of these kids are professionals and know their voices pretty well, they're in a much better position to choose a song that will suit their voice than the coaches who have been working with them for such a brief period. Even just letting them have a little input would be nice!
