re: O'Hara is Dot

Jason Alexander has directed a few plays in LA to generally unehthusiastic reviews. I'm anticipating he'll see this production as sa chance to prove himself as a director. I'm sure Kelli would love to play dot in the Broadway transfer of the London production (As fabulous as Jenna Russell was in the London production, American producers will want a pedigreed Broadway actress for the role).

Will Neil Patrick do the role in LA? I'm not sure he can afford t take time away from his sitcom's shooting schedule. I personally think James Barbour would be an ideal choice (he has a "cold" quality that would be perfect for the role). Mark Kudisch isn't available but he would have been perfect.

Malcolm Gets is a Reprise "regular" but I think he would be totally wrong as George.

Another interesting choice would be Hugh Panaro who did Merrily in concert at Reprise a few years ago.

I have it on very good authority that Neil is interested in the role and very informal talks have taken place in regards to making it work schedule wise.

I got the impression that if he wants to do it and they want him to do it then scheduling from "How I Met Your Mother" wouldn't stand in the way of that. Since the show shoots in LA it shouldn't be too difficult to work around.

Anything involving Kelli O'Hara is worth a look. This girl is making quite a name for herself.

I'm definitely excited, I have faith that she can play the role well.

NPH did "All My Sons" for about a month long run at the Geffen last April...I'm sure they can work around his schedule.

re: O'Hara is Dot

NPH would be an excellent choice. He has proved himself as a top-notch interpreter of Sondhim in the "Evening Primrose" concert and in "Assassins" on Broadway. Sondheim is a definitely a fan of his so if Steve approves, whom am I to disagree? re: O'Hara is Dot

Toni Collette would be perfection as Dot...

I was going to say the same thing as ljay.

I wonder if she is under consideration for the role of Dot for the Broadway transfer of London's Menier Chocolate factory production?

Could be worse. Could be Jason Alexander, Britney's first hubby.

Lol, ain't it the truth, Jon?

As for her casting-Pretty much everyone dismissed her casting as Babe and (for me) she was one of the best things in the production. I have no doubt that she will be wonderful. She's not just the ingenue that we all imagine her to be.
"Sing the words, Patti!!!!" Stephen Sondheim to Patti LuPone.

Oh my God!! Too bad I will never be able to see it. Here's to hoping she's cast in the Broadway transfer, because there is no doubt in my mind that she will be absolutely brilliant.

re: O'Hara is Dot

Have you ever seen/heard her in "My Life With Albertine"? Kelli played Albertine, you can hear her on the OOBC. She did a wonderful job. In a lot of ways it reminds me of "Sundays" it's very much a musical based on the relationship between artist and muse and how that relationship can be fulfilled in art when it can't in real life. I think it'll be intersting to compare Kelli's performance in each role given that there are such thematic similarities.

re: O'Hara is Dot

I sort of originally shuttered at the thought of this, but now I'm getting more and more excited. I still see her as Clara, but it'll be interesting how she pulls off Marie. I can't wait!
SondheimGeek: Is it slightly pathetic that you guys get to be Jedi bitches, and I'm Bitchy the Hutt?
LizzieCurry: No, you're more memorable

re: O'Hara is Dot

Ahh! I just read about this on Broadway.com. Bring Kelli back to Broadway as Dot! This is so exciting. I hope she gets fantastic reviews out in L.A.
