It's a mic sizzling - they didn't go back to fix as I'm sure it got by them when they were recording - such is the pressure cooker nature of doing these things in one day. It's only about nine seconds and you have to listen really hard to hear it - nothing to be done about it.
AH! I can't believe I missed the announcement of the second edition. I was unemployed when the first edition was released, and figured it would be one recording of Follies I'd never get to have in my library. Then today I saw the second edition listed in Talkin' Broadway's Sound Advice email, and got even more excited about my new job. I'm going to make this my splurge-of-the-month. :)
Thanks for the reissue! I was unemployed when the CD was issued and just got my first full months pay - the remixed OBC was my first purchase (before rent or food!)
I can't wait to hear it... I, too, am a Follies virgin - and this is the perfect excuse to listen! :)
Ooh, we love when there are Follies virgins who are open-minded enough to go back and listen to an older recording (well, it doesn't sound so old now) :)
I've heard from so many of the still-alive folks from the original - the reactions from them have been amazing, from Sondheim to Prince to Tunick to John McMartin to Harvey Evans to BYRD - to paraphrase Mr. Sondheim and Miss Collins: I'm so glad I did this.
