Jay in Chelsea - your post brought tears to MY eyes.
MIne, too, actually. I lived too far away to see the original more than twice, but as with jay, it profoundly changed my understanding of what musical theater could accomplish.
How wonderful to finally have a recording that does that experience justice!
Still waiting for mine, through that is not unusual given the time it takes things to get here. But I am incredibly excited, even more so after reading this thread as it's been updated every day. I cannot wait!
Glad to know I'm not the only one yet to receive this gem.
Btw, I know the revival used the original orchestrations, but could anyone list the differences in keys between the OBC and the 2011 BRC? Peters' Losing My Mind was a half-step higher than Collins', right?

The question will always be - when did you order and where are you located (assuming overseas). While we have the occasional gets there really fast story (someone in Wales got it in four or five days, I think) it's usually at least two weeks (someone in the UK just got theirs yesterday from the original batch of orders) but it can also take ten weeks - it's all customs. As a test, that guy in the UK called customs and gave them the customs number from his package (which we provided). Customs told him that no such package had entered the UK so they had no information for him. It arrived four hours later at his home. So, customs is obviously not above lying about these things. There would have been NO way for it not to have entered the country, that much we knew.
Mine has arrived! It is simply gorgeous. I had to tear myself away from it to go to work. Thanks, bk! What a fantastic job. It's uncanny how immersive the recording is, despite being so truncated. The remixing and remastering have a great deal to do with that and we are lucky to have this.
Mine arrived while I was away, but I just got to listen to it and it is glorious.
Thank you, bk--and than you for the Ethel Shutta picture when you lift the CD out of the jewel case!

Any chance any more copies will become available? I meant to order it a few weeks ago and forgot

Is Kritzerland still selling this? I would like to get a copy of this; never heard the OBC... see my previous thread re: Sondheim recordings! lol. What was wrong with the original recording besides songs being cut short? I am still reading LOOK, I MADE A HAT and haven't gotten to FOLLIES yet.

Are you fourteen? :)
The original album was horridly mixed and EQ'd - one of the worst. But your job is to now read this thread because all the information on what we did is contained herein. If you drop me a private message here I can help you - right now, it's sold out but I have a limited number of our emergency copies left.
LOL. I am older than fourteen... maybe that's how old my brain is at the moment; it is summer after all. :P

I just saw the fourteen in your screen name and made a supposition, which seemed plausible since you're just starting to go on your Sondheim journey.

An interesting and very insightful podcast with Mr. Kimmel discussing Follies, the recording business and process, plans for possible future releases, and various other projects.

Just letting everyone know that at midnight tonight we're announcing a second edition of Follies - the response has been so overwhelming and a lot of people just either waited too long or never heard about it - add to that Mr. Sondheim's desire that it remain available for a while and Capitol allowing this one-time only re-pressing and it became a possibility. We've only done this once before - with my remix of Promises, Promises. That means this new mix of Follies will probably remain available for some time, which is what we all would like, so that anyone who finds out about it (the actual reviews haven't even hit yet) will be able to get it. And the new mix is now under my control for another three years, and that was important to me, too.
Great interview. I hope that a remaster/newly mixed Funny Girl is happening. Would knock my socks off to have a vastly improved mix.
Good to hear that it's doing so well and that Sondheim approves.

congrats bk. That's wonderful news. I'm so glad that more people are going to be able to enjoy this beautiful recording.

Congratulations. What you've done is nothing short of the musical-comedy equivalent of restoring DaVinci's Last Supper.
^^^^
Amen, PJ.
Kritzerland remasters are marvels. I don't know how bk does it, but it feels like magic.
On a side note, the original Byrd poster design is my favorite artwork of any show. Musical, straight play, whatever.
It's evocative, and brilliant.

Bryd is on Facebook and he'd love to hear your thoughts. He's a great guy.
That's great news, BK! I'm sure the second release will be as successful as the first.
Well done, you!
I absolutely ADORE my copy...it's amazing to hear things I've never heard before, despite listening to the original recording over and over again for years. It is so precious and so appreciated...a true gem made even more amazing!
Because I'm so particular, I was a disappointed that my plastic case was broken in the middle where the CD is held in the place. Also, does anyone else notice a bit of spitting or sputtering during Broadway Baby? Faintly in background?
