I thoroughly enjoyed this year's ceremony compared to the previous years. Congratulations to all of those who won!
COMMENTS:
-I am thrilled that LaChanze won. While I enjoyed LuPone and believed she could have taken it, I am glad that LaChanze pulled through and that THE COLOR PURPLE won something.
-Surprised to see Christian Hoff win his award, but I am pleased nonetheless. My personal favorite was Felciano, but he has a bright future ahead of him.
-I actually predicted that THE PAJAMA GAME had a good shot at winning due to its lighter subject matter. In addition to that, it is going to need the business when it reopens in the fall without the name of Harry Connick, Jr. attached to it. SWEENEY TODD has recouped and will most likley close within the rest of the year, but it can stand proud as a production and should not base its success on a Tony Award.
-Well, it seems that the voters went the same route as THE LION KING/RAGTIME, THOROUGLY MODERN MILLIE/URINETOWN, and awarded THE DROWSY CHAPERONE with Best Book and Best Score, but giving Best Musical to JERSEY BOYS. Both deserved the award (though I was rooting for THE COLOR PURPLE to pull an upset). Either way, I am glad for both shows.
-Adding to what MargoChanning has said, it is just an awards show and has no significant impact on your life. Be glad for those who won, sympathize for those who did not, and just enjoy everything else.
