I'm happy.... still have no desire to see "JB"...
LaChanze won, which will mean even a bigger boast for the "TCP"
Box Office (not that they really needed it)... Plus, loved their performance...
Was just glad that Patti didnt win after seeing her clap for herself when her name was announced as a nominee
I'm so very happy for LaChanze, that was a well deserved win.
Patti's a living legend, she's had her days, and we all know she'll have more to come.
Generally I'm happy with tonight. I would have liked for someone in Sweeny to have won something, but o well.
*Just my two cents*

I frankly don't care at all who won any of these categories. I stopped getting caught up over awards YEARS ago and am happy for whoever wins as long as they did quality work. To me, winning an award doesn't automatically mean BEST. People win awards for all sorts of reasons -- political, economic, sentimental -- and only a few of them artistic. It's not an objective measure, it's an opinion, so to win one to me really means nothing.
And just for the record, while I wasn't actually rooting for any of them, I probably had a better time at Threepenny than the other two.
I know, but, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Jersey Boys nominated for best book?
And I'm with Testing. I have absolutely no desire to see Jersey Boys.

I'm confused. It seems some people were rooting for LaChanze were only doing so, not because she was that good per se, but because they wanted Patti to lose. Sad.
Congradulations to Jersey Boys for all their many deserving awards.

Best new musical, best lead actor and featured actor in a musical, best lighting. Congratulations to the Jersey Boys team. It may not please Broadway afficianados but reflects the taste of the wider public, IMHO

hey everyone
Personally, I would have rather had Kelli win...
I love Kelli more than life...
So even though Sweeney Toddy probably should have gotten the revival award considering the originality of the show... I don't care.
I'm happy for Pajama Game.
And Jersey Boys?
I really didn't know it was that good...
I didn't expect it at all.
...and George W. Bush, as they're going to perform at the WH tomorrow. What was the last show invited to the White House?

I'm sure that I'm in the minority here, but I'm happy about TPG winning over Sweeney because I think the revival is awful and as, was stated earlier, overrated.
Jersey Boys though... WTF.
I'm thrilled LaChanze and Christian Hoff won. I found Hoff to be one of the best parts of Jersey Boys and I'm elated that he won. While not phenomenally brilliant like Manoel, I'm happy he won over Dale. And LaChanze! Oh, who called it from day one!? I got a little skeptical and wondered what Patti's chances were but I am so estatic she won. She is absolutely excellent in The Color Purple.
Sweeney should have won Revival (it needs it so much more than Pajama Game...and it deserves it wholeheartedly).
The Color Purple deserved Best Musical. It was undoubtedly, the best musical I saw this season. Frankly, Jersey Boys was a fine show in itself but an excellent jukebox musical which is the single reason it won. It was a great, breakthrough for the category of "jukebox musicals". It didn't deserve to win and didn't need the Tony but that doesn't mean it was a bad show because it definitley wasn't. I would have been happier to see anything else win over it though. Even The Wedding Singer. I can't explain it in a coherent way but Jersey Boys was a fine show but not worthy of the title of Best Musical.

I am mostly happy for all of the awards tonight.
I'm very disapointed that Sweeney didn't win Best Revival. But I agree with almost all of the other ones.
what did she say "half!?!?!" to?
I can't say I think Jersey Boys is deserving of Best Musical. It should have gone The Drowsy Chaperone. It's clearly politics when a COMPLETELY ORIGINAL work wins Best Book, Best Score, Best Scenery, and Best Costumes, and loses best musical.
I'm also stunned that Sweeney was almost entirely snubbed if not for Doyle and its Orchestrations.
Don't get me wrong I am happy for people:
All of Drowsy - Beth especially.
Lachanze
Ian McDiarmid
Richard Griffiths
She was reading the teleprompter for Sweeney and it said "The half-mad barber..." and she went "Half?!?!?!"
<< I'm confused. It seems some people were rooting for LaChanze were only doing so, not because she was that good per se, but because they wanted Patti to lose. Sad.

Not this person... I was rooting for LaChanze because I felt that she deserved it. I left "TCP" thinking that her portrayal of Celie was breathtaking !!! It moved me ! I left "ST" thinking that Patti was good, but that she was the third best performer in the show.
Yeah. Oh well. I'm not too disappointed about anything (Michael's acceptance speech would have meant I'd have something to fangirl over--as would Patti's--but that's about all), but I am surprised at how well JB did. I like JB a lot, but I didn't really expect all of that.
Oh well. Where's pics of Bernadette? I need these. That's my priority.
Wow, this year went pretty close to what I thought deserved the awards. Interesting. I didn't think Pajama Game had a chance, but I was secretly hoping it would win. What a wonderful surprise. And LaChanze's reaction was the highlight of the evening. Too bad the telecast was so dull. Many of the performances just picked the wrong numbers and that horrible Phantom foul-up moment never should have been placed in there at all.

Ah, I wish my 3/4 mad barber would have won. As well as my 99/100 mad Tobias.
Jersey Boys = Amazing.
Couple comments.
The performances, for the most part... meh. None of them made me want to see any of the shows, if I hadn't seen them already.
There were very few that I was thrilled about, really -- the others were just... there, in a season that IMO, is a bit lackluster, especially compared to last season. I was very, very glad to see Cynthia Nixon's deserving win, and obviously for Sweeney's two awards -- to John Doyle and Sarah Travis.
As for Sweeney... I am surprised. Not heartbroken and emotionally distraught. I thought that if Mano lost, it would be to Jim Dale. I wanted -- but did not expect -- him to win. I hoped that Michael and Patti would win, and I'm kind of surprised that at least one of them did not. Same goes for best revival, IMO -- I'm just confused as to how or why it didn't win. But, sh*t happens.
With regards to that... I dunno, y'all. I like Mano. I like Mano's performance. I am thoroughly floored by this revival of Sweeney Todd. And while I'm surprised and confused and maybe a slight bit of angry/baffled, I'm stunned by how personally some of y'all can be taking these things. It is just an award -- and its loss does not end your universe, nor does it condemn the work of these people as bad. It's a disappointment, yes -- I certainly am disappointed, but... some of your reactions are frightening.

Well I watched the TONYs and must saya I had a bit of a complex reaction. A few comments:
I was severly dissapointed in Sweeney's loss for Best Revival. I thought it more then deserved it. It proved that you can take a beloved work such as Sweeney Todd and completly reinvent it to make it fresh to even the most hardcore Sondheim affeciandos. I must admit I cried.
I was dissapointed, but not surprised at Ceveris's loss. He won recently and had serious competition. I am a diehard Ceveris fan, but he has a long career ahead of him and I am just so proud of him for his success in this role.
Patti's loss was surprising but I was not entirly disappointed. I loved LaChanze's performance and felt she deserved reccognition for her performance. She is a beautiful and talented women.
The performances were on the whole, meeh. Threepennys was dreadful, and did not make me want to see the show at all. The Pajama Games was better then I expected, I loved O'Hara, but Connick very much dissapointed me. Sweeney's performance was good but I have seen them do better. The Color Purple's performance was phenomenal and made me want to see the show, as did Jersey Boys. The Drowsy Chaperone was good but not great and The Wedding Singers was dissapointing.
I must admit I loved Johanna's "Half?!"
