Hey people..pretty new on this board and have not posted much but what are some of the shows on Broadway or off for a while that you think may be overated. Jump on the band wagon shows etc..I know of plenty that can just be plain annoying but not exactly brave enough to jump in quite yet. I may be attacked by fans! lol Just wondering what people think:)

I personally think it depends on if Les Mis is fresh or not when you see it. When I saw it it was amazing, but unless the energy is there, it falls apart. Everyone I've talked to said the actors were tired when they performed and thought the show was overrated, can anyone else back me up on this? I believe I even heard someone say the tour was better than the broadway show was towards the end.

hmmm interesting, i saw the tour before the broadway production closed, I would dig out my program to see who all was in it but it would mean I would have to organize all my ticket stubs and programs to all the shows I've been to and I don't wanna do that right now.:) I keep evrything from the shows I have seen.:)

The current London revival of Anything Goes. The critics all raved so much that I went in with an extremely high expectation and left feeling robbed.

Many of Sondheim's. I love his earlier works including those where he did lyrics only

If anything, Mr Roxy, Sondheim is UNDERRATED. He is a pure genius and most people would rather go see Lion King than Assassins when it opens. He is not overrated at all. He deserves a great amount of respect that is only given to him by a select few in the theatre community.

Thoroughly Modern Millie- I heard it was so good, so I went to go see it, and I was upset because I thought it would be better.

Mr. Roxy is crazy. Sondheim's works are all genius. Overrated...I don't think I have to say it. Everyone knows.

I completely agree that Sondheim is UNDERrated. When a local college was doing A Little Night Music, I asked numerous theater friends to go with me. (All of which replied, "What is A Little Night Music?") After telling them that it was by Sondheim, most of them replied with "Who's that?" I was in utter shock. I then went forth explaining many of the shows he had written lyrics and/or music to. The only ones that they recognized were West Side Story, Into The Woods, and Gypsy.

With Company being my favorite show, I abruptly burned numerous copies of the Original Cast Recording and scattered them about my friends. Hopefully, they'll gain a new and appreciative understanding for the genius Sondheim is.

-On another note, I think a very over-rated musicals are Cats, Evita, and Phantom of the Opera. As Stewie said to Peter from Family Guy, "You...you are the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber!"

I'm as jumpy as a virgin at a prison rodeo!

Mamma Mia & The Lion King for me. Especially the Lion King. To be truthful, I found it kind of boring. The only cool things were the costumes.

I totally understand why people say Phantom & Les Mis are overrated, but since I like these shows I won't say anything. re: : re: OVERATED SHOWS But I do think Phantom is more overrated than Les Mis is.
