Her liking musicals or not seems irrelevant to me. I took the iPod and Richard Rodgers book to be gifts representing an American art form.
Similarly, I wouldn't ask whether or not Obama was a devotee of photography. Her gift of her photograph was the gesture of one head of state to another, not the intimate gift of a friend.

You could actually decipher that mess? The Queen's English, indeed.
No Wildhorn?
They wanted her to enjoy the present.
"Can anyone picture the Queen listening to an IPOD?"
She apparently sent her first e-mail in the 1970s when it was something only available to the military. She also demonstrated herself to be IT literate when visiting YouTube's HQ recently.
"it's been reported that Her Majesty is a HUGE fan of showtunes and musicals"
Well, Prince Edward certainly is.

It has also been reported that she enjoys tweeting on Twitter and recently friended Gramham Norton on Facebook.
From the above linked article:
"Finding herself next to Mrs Obama, the Queen remarked on their height difference."
So, she's a size Queen?

If it's true that she doesn't like musicals, I'm not really surprised by this choice of gift. He seems to have a knack for giving the wrong gifts to foreign leaders.
Apparently he also had some of his speeches on there. Just what I'd want.
Well, if she's announced that she actively hates musicals, yes. (In which case she shouldn't go throwing life peearges at musical theater composers.) Otherwise I still think it a fine representation of American culture.
Spork, where did you hear about his speeches being on there? That's news to me.

It was a link on the DrudgeReport. It's gone now.
Here. It's from the article in the Telegraph:

We now also know that there were some of Obama's speeches on the iPod, as well as footage of the Queen's visits to the United States. According to the White House, the Queen asked for a video iPod - the one she already had was an audio device.

It was the musical that tore Elizabeth's baby from her nurturing breast and exposed him to the cold, harsh workaday world.
"Really Useful Group," she bitterly wailed, "more like Really Usurping Group."

Obama has actually broken a whole lot of laws by giving Liz a copy of the Cd he bought on that iPod.
How are those poor artists and record companies going to get paid their royalties if the Prez is pirating toonz.
I hope the RIAA sues his butt.
