Official 'Rent' Trailer Debuts Online; 'Producers' Trailer Rumor
By Andrew Hartman, MovieMusicals.net
Status: Confirmed/Grain of Salt
MovieMusicals.net previously reported that the teaser trailer for the upcoming 'Rent' flick shall debut online June 7, exclusively at AOL.
AOL has now launched this Moviefone exclusive, although no features are currently available.
Expect the trailer, among other features, to become available tomorrow.
It is reported that the teaser shall also have its television premier on June 7 as well, only on Access Hollywood.
In related news, there is a 'grain of salt' rumor that a trailer for the upcoming 'The Producers' film shall debut with soon-to-be-released 'Bewitched.' We are working to confirm this.
The teaser for 'Rent' is just over two minutes in length and is already playing in select cities, such as Los Angeles and New York. The trailer features the song "Seasons of Love."
Due to hit theatres nationwide on November 11, 2005, 'Rent' is the motion picture adaptation of the hit Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical. 'The Producers' is expected in theatres December 21 and is based on the record-breaking Tony Award winning Broadway musical.
'Rent' is directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Stepmom). A Revolution Studios film, to be distributed by Columbia Pictures. Original cast members from the Broadway production, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, and Anothony Rapp return to reprise their roles in the film. Joining them are Rosario Dawson, who shall take on the role of "Mimi," and Tracie Thoms, who shall portray "Joanne Jefferson."
It will be VERY interesting to see a Producers trailor...I'm very curious about what it's gonna look like...

Has nobody checked out sony.com/rent? It's now a full website. It's lovely.
I love the website...(pun intended) GLORIOUS!!! Love, love, love it! Literally started crying...I'm so happy for this movie to be made...*sniffles again* So happy!!!
I completely forgot that the Producers movie was coming out only a month(ish) after Rent, so I was shocked when I read that the trailer was coming out so soon. But it's a completely normal time-period, especially when Summer 2006 movie trailers are already being released.
The Rent movie website is okay. The weird clicking sound effect is getting to me. I wish the scroll box with the text wasn't so freakin' tiny, considering all the red space around the whole site, they could have made it a bit bigger. In the bios, you have to scroll just to be able to read a full sentence.
I also don't like the ordering of the cast, it just encourages the view that Rosario and Taye are the STARS. Screw the marketing of big names, it's a website to inform people about the movie. I love Taye Diggs, but the role of Benny isn't worthy of second-from-the-top-billing. They should have it listed in alphabetical order, or by role-importance.
On the plus side, I think the minutes countdown is cute. It's fitting with the show, and completely appropriate for the fans, considering we've been counting down ourselves since the release date was announced.
The website is okay for information purposes, but I still prefer the blog.
Umm - It IS in alphabetical order...
Rosario DAWSON
Taye DIGGS
...
Not entirely. Wilson Jermaine Heredia is out of place.
I thought it was in alphabetical order until I realized Wilson was second-to-last, which is why I was so annoyed by it. That's why I started to look into ulterior motives behind the cast list order.
Maybe I'm just dumb, but I went to sony.com/rent and it still says full site coming soon and has the options to click for 'blogs' and 'register'. Where are you finding the full site? I must know!
bump
anybody?
Anthony's bio says he is writing a memoir about his work with Rent for Simon & Schuster. Has this been discussed on the boards?? Sounds great!

I just saw the RENT trailer for the first time and it brought tears to my eyes! I had to grab my CD immediatly after watching it so that's what I'm listening to. Sorry I just had to share that with everyone
I got to see them filming part of The Producers in central park whenever I was in nyc a few weeks ago. I have pictures -- if anyone is interested just PM me. I remember one line that I heard over and over because they kept reshooting it and it was "I want that money!!!" I don't know much about the show though so I couldn't tell you what scene I saw being filmed.

ditto on the bizarre knocking. In place of this strange sound effect, I kind of expected there to be a song playing or something. But given that it isn't an ad for a stage production, and we're crossing audiences (hopefully) into non-theatre people, I can deal with it.
and it is a weird size. Why not take up more screen space -- or even filling the small window that opens up?
I shall now stop my complaining and be extremely happy that there is a movie being made, that it's with OUR people (i.e. not Justin Timberlake and Beyonce), and that they are filling us in on news this far in advance of releasing the film :)

Emcee (and all other Adam fans)...have you seen the picture of Adam on there? I had not seen this shot before -- very brooding and sexy Roger. Love it :)
The trailer will be on Access Hollywood tomorrow! Woohoo, I'm taping it lol.
Ugh, I'm so upset. I have one video tape I've set aside for all of the RENT film TV press/appearances/etc. I'm not at home, but said video tape is. Boo.
thanks for this information Capn, Im going to bookmark that website.

You might as well start a new one, you'll need more than one video before all is said and done :)
I haven't got any blank tapes here, either. I have ones with space on them, should all else fail. I'll just stick it on my Tony tape.
Oh, and the website.... it's real. That's so exciting, but... does anybody else find it a little daunting?
