Rumpelstiltskin said: "I hope they write songs honoring the most memorable Smash moments and tropes. I’m looking forward to the rousing “I’m in tech” number along withJulia’s heartfelt “Scarf of a Different Color” and of course Frank’s longing “Salad Ballad” that he sings post-divorce when he realizes they never got around to giving him apurpose outside the kitchen."
My mom is watching the show for the first time and just got to the tech ep. When I called her today she answered with “I can’t talk to you now. I’m in tech!”

As much as I loved the TV show, I don't see how anyone would think this would realistically run for long period of time. There are so many chances for a play-within-a play about writing a play to go so wrong.

I'm all here for SMASH as a Broadway musical as long as Megan reprises her role as Ivy. I would be okay with Katharine McPhee as Karen and I know she definitely wants to be in it as she said 'I'll be there with my 16 bars ready to audition" but I think I would rather see someone new as Karen to mirror the effect of not knowing what Karen is capable of because she's green and they don't know her well unlike how they know Ivy and what she can do.
It'll be interesting to see how they condense 2 seasons of a tv show into a musical but I think they could pull it off, I could see revised or new songs being great additions to it. I could see Pasek and Paul or JRB writing some kick ass new songs for it.

I think it'll be a loose interpretation of just season one. Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing the score (along with Julia and Tom).

i remember them saying it was impossible for one person to sing all those songs 8x a week and not have they voice wrecked in a few weeks, so it made more sense to follow smash vs bombshell because then they could split the songs between the 2
