Re: Wicked sent out a mailer

Sep 7, 2026 — 10:30:03 AM

I was surprised when I got the mailer for Wicked, but given the current economy, I guess it makes sense to try and get some extra sales for the slow winter months. It’s still a pretty small discount. And it’s not like Wicked is at risk of closing even without the coupon.

The thread below has become the defacto one for the Damn Yankees revival: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/thread/Tim-Hughes-dragging-Jordan-Donica Probably does make sense to have its own thread now.

I really like NPH, but Rob McClure stole that show. He was phenomenal. I can’t see it being anything but inferior to the DC version without him. Disappointed to hear that Jordan is no longer part of the production, but can’t blame him for taking such an amazing opportunity over Damn Yankees. I haven’t heard anything about replacing Ana Villafañe as Lola, which honestly is the only casting choice I think they needed to change. She was by far the weakest link. Her singing was decent - but the a...

Re: Would the HADESTOWN film be Oscar-eligible?

Jul 29, 2026 — 8:57:57 AM

The same question was asked on the other board yesterday and I believe had some comments about the rules not permitting it. Worth checking out if you’re looking for more detail. As to my own personal thoughts, it’s not a movie and shouldn’t be eligible as such. But the rules for the Oscars have more to do with how a project is released, so you would have to look at those. That said, even if it were eligible, I think there’s a less than zero percent chance it would get any nominations, especia...

Re: P!nk and her daughter are doing Next to Normal

Jul 21, 2026 — 1:39:32 PM

I think Pink could definitely sing the part. No opinions on how the acting would go because I don’t think I’ve seen her act in anything outside of a music video. But I do think she’s insanely talented. I know she’s trying to get her daughter into the business, but this seems like an odd choice. It’s a very intense, dramatic show. Her daughter is a decent singer, but I think she needs a lot more training before being able to play a role like this. I was going to say she’s also too young, but I...

Someone posted Julie Halston's speech on YouTube, and honestly the price of admission was worth it for this alone!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXAyihoX0jY

I would have been over the moon if she had!

I absolutely loved the show. I think they did an excellent job with the selection of singers for each song. Robyn Hurder, Marisha Wallace, Jessica Vosk, and Andrew Rannells were the standouts. Mo Rocca and Marc Shaiman did an excellent job as hosts moving things along. And getting appearances by John Kander and Lorna Luft were lovely.I think Julie Halston definitely stole the show. I was cracking up throughout her entire story. The comment after that it was all of pride month balled up into o...

[title of show] returning…

Jun 5, 2026 — 10:52:51 PM

I loooove [tos] and still listen to it and quote it on the regular. But it seems like such a strange show to bring back. I agree with everyone else saying it was a product of its time and its cast. A musical about two guys writing a musical about two guys writing a musical seems like an odd choice for a Glee reunion on Broadway.

RENT 30th Anniversary Concert - 10/26 at Richard Rodgers Theatre

Jun 1, 2026 — 2:22:28 PM

Someone on Reddit posted a link to a ticketing page that said sold out. It looks like that was the page that would have been used for selecting and buying tickets. There was also a link to an Upcoming Events page. I was able to access those pages even when the Rent 30 page was still giving an error. I’m wondering if some people knew about that and clicked through that way and were able to get tickets while the “main” page was still down?https://tickets.broadwaycares.org/events/827

RENT 30th Anniversary Concert - 10/26 at Richard Rodgers Theatre

Before the site crashed I had opened up the link, which had a blue button that said “get tickets as 12pm eastern.” I didn’t refresh that page and still have it open. Obviously that button never went live on that page. Definitely confused how any one was able to get tickets if the website was fully crashed.

BCEFA just posted on Insta that the in-person tickets sold out within minutes today, but that there will be a lottery later this summer and a livestream.I was never able to get past the “high traffic page” on several devices https://www.instagram.com/p/DZDKRvRFNuQ/?igsh=MWRuNzV0b3R3M2d4dA==

Can't afford $300-450 to sit on the floor for this, especially when we don't know who is performing or if Liza will show. They also changed "signed copy" to just "copy," which I guess isn't a surprise at this point. I settled for a nosebleed which was still pretty expensive.I'm hoping for Joel Grey and Ben Vereen to make appearances."I just looked through my email, and I paid about $60 for upper balcony for Dol...

TotallyEffed said: "Tickets for the Carnegie Hall tribute are damn expensive."I wasn’t too too bothered by them. More than Hello, Dolly!, but a lot less than what I paid for Follies. Half an hour in and there’s still plenty sub-$100 tickets available. I do think my expectations for this concert are incredibly high and I’m hoping for an A++ cast.I’m just glad the queue was well managed. I think I still have PTSD from the Chorus Line Actors Fund benefit! 😂

Anyone starting to prefer bootlegs over cast recordings?

Charley Kringas Inc said: "The ur-example is the Hello Dolly revival, which sounds like a sickly child on the cast recording, but it's hard for me to think of a recent case where I preferred the cast album over a good bootleg. I want that bigness."Dolly was my immediate thought when I first saw the post. That cast recording was so muted and sad compared to the joy in the live version. I don’t know what they were thinking. I will only listen to Bootlegs of that production.

Transport Group just announced their big concert this year is going to be a tribute to Liza - Liza! at 80. I loved the Follies and Dolly productions over the last 2 years, so I'll definitely be trying for tickets for this one.Interestingly, the website says that everyone will receive an autographed copy of the book, which I'm sure will bump the prices up even more.https://transportgroup.org/project/liza-at-80/
