Just watching this now, and HOW FUNNY is Carol Channing?? I love her. And Julie Andrews is fabulous as always.
This is one of my favorite movies. And the reason I resented Sutton Foster when the stage play first came out. I'm an originals snob. I still like the movie better than the show, but I appreciate the show for what it is (and I now ADORE Sutton Foster).
I recently watched it! It is hilarious, positively and negatively. Carol Channing is crazy. And The Mrs. Meers and everyone! So funny in good and bad ways!

How great is Julie Andrews in the opening scene? I love her facial expressions. And the title cards representing her thoughts.
I became highly interested in the film after being captivated by Sutton's dazzling performance in the fantastic Broadway show. It is much sillier than the show, but is more of a successful spoof of that era.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY SAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE!! She got SOY SAUCE all over my new dress from Paris!
I think its funny how the chinese are so stereotyped in the movie. As if every Chinese man during that time had a beard and a long braid!
Wait . . . they didn't? *blink*
I LOVE this movie, it is one that I grew up on and I wish more people knew about. A really wonderful, hilarious, satiric film that showcases Julie Andrews, Carol Channing, and Mary Tyler Moore brilliantly. In seeing the stage show, I was almost glad that it was soooo different from the film because I think that actually allowed me to like it a lot more and get over the fact that they were staging one of my favorite movies ever and without Julie Andrews. Mary Poppins on the other hand...yikes...
Unfortuantely, no. lol
TMM was a gigantic hit film. The biggest in Universal's long history, at the time. Everybody went to see it, it seemed.

i'm a ***FREAK*** for Bea Lillie!!!!!
I had no idea it was such a big hit. So few people know about it nowadays it definitely didn't doesb't have the popularity of Sound of Music or Mary Poppins now.

I think I pissed myself the first time I saw it, during the airplain scene, when Carol just pops up and yells "RASBERRIES!"...
Too much for words...
Probably because it's so unPC with all the stereotypes and such.
Funny story: I'm one of the very few people who hadn't seen Psycho before their 20th birthday. I just saw it . . . oh, last month, I guess. But, as I was watching, the girl's boytoy caught my ears because his voice sounded familier. It wasn't until he and the girl's sister actually went out to the hotel that I realized it was Trevor Graydon himself.
Probably not funny to you, but I thought it ironic that I recognized an actor from a not-so-well-known movie in an-indcredibly-well-known movie and not the other way around.
Well, TSOM and MP, were beyond blockbusters. You have to go all the way back to GONE WITH THE WIND, to find a film that was as popular as TSOM, and MP was Disney's biggest film in the studio's history. But, Millie was enormous, just not as enormous as those two. And, it's a silly film, as planned, and they just don't endure in the same way.

I loved TMM the movie, I recently caught it for the first time on cable and I adored it. How cute was Mary Tyler Moore as Miss Dorothy and them having to tap dance to get the elevetor to work, and of course Julie Andrews was sheerly brillant.
RASBERRIES!
I was sick and out of work for two weeks. Luckily my TMM DVD came while I was on the counch and it got me through!
I think Barbra Streisand should have played Muzzie!

I definitely agree I love the film TMM. I also have to second that "RASPBERRIES!!!!" is a divine moment in the film. I wish they would have kept that. With modern stage technology it would have been easy to fly Sheryl Lee Ralph over the audience screaming "Raspberries, honey!" Actually, my first thought was why wasn't Carol cast as Muzzie in the show. That would be absosultely divine. Also, I adore the "Jazz Baby" number. I wish they had kept that. It really defined Muzzie as a dizzy, lovable jazz lady and not quite as regal as she was portrayed in the musical.
"He's as fresh as paint."
"Oh, he's just full of applesauce!"
"Shu-shau, shu-shau" or whatever Miss Meers says. :) Oh and of course who can forget, "SOYYYY SAAUUCCCEEEEEE!!!!!" :)

Millie: I never read Tom Sawyer. Was he... sexy?
Trevor Greydon: He was only twelve!
Millie: So? If ya got it, ya got it.
I think Barbra Streisand should have played Muzzie!
Oh, wow! That would have been like, so amazing!
