I originally thought that they were too old, also. But when I remembered the PLOT, I realized, "Oh, yeah. Nobody can get married!" So it totally makes sense that they are older. I actually like it more than having young people playing the couples.
I think this musical can be quite fun! There's a couple of great numbers for good character interpretation through song. And I'm VERY curious if they're going to approach the whole Oedipal thing between Agravain and Dauntless. Since Carol is involved, I'm assuming they will. We just ran into Mr. Hibbert this evening (who's playing the Wizard) and he said the filming was a hoot and a holler.
Barnaby - Sir Harry is the role that's usually presented as the pretty boy/stud of the piece. Dauntless is pretty much a stumbling, bumbling Mama's boy - his looks aren't the important part.
Ooops I didn't mean it that way. In my high school Dauntless was played by the popular jock so I guess I just associated that part with being exctremely good-looking.
