Why hasn't Sound of Music had a Revival for ages?

it just isn't that good.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'd hardly call 14 years since the revival closed "ages"

That really depends on the age of the poster.

But truly, there are gads of shows that haven't been produced in 14 years and even longer.

I'm 18 and don't consider 14 years "ages."

It's also one of those shows that is constantly being produced. So why have a revival when everyone has already seen a production, etc. Same with Hello, Dolly.

Hell, even South Pacific, a much better show than Sound of Music has had only one Broadway revival, and that was over 50 years after the original.

That didn't stop Annie!

I think the hard thing here, is that the film of SOM is better than the stage version, and it is also beloved.

BTW....I've been involved with theater since 1967 and have been involved (as an actor, director or choreographer) with any production of South Pacific (although it was my daughter's first show and the very first show I ever saw on stage), Annie, OR The Sound of Music.

1. The stage version will always be compared to the much superior movie vesion.

2. Every high school, college, community theater, church, synogogue and mosque performs this show. I think it may be the most performed musical ever.

3. It's really not that interesting of a show. There's not much real conflict in the show. If they had made the Baroness more of a bitch or made the Nazi threat more real, it may have been a more interesting show. But the struggle of a woman to be a nun or a governess just isn't that interesting. What's at stake?

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
