Thank you, Katurian2. The set designer told us that she wanted the set to be our playground.
It was the most fun I've ever had in a production and I encourage you all to SEE the show if you can. If it's done correctly, it's a fantastic production.

Posted: 4/4/06 at 10:09pmI love the rest of Ahrens and Flaherty's work, and there are about 3 songs in this show that are wonderful, but the bulk of the score is very tiresome to me. I also think the show lacks a coherent storyline and center.

Personally, I love Seussical. But only when it's done right. I think Seussical is one of those shows that has to be done just right... but when it's good, it's great.
Coincidentally, I saw what was my favorite production of the show EVER just this past weekend. The local community theater where I used to live in VT (which just has a history of putting on utterly amazing shows. Seriously. They're not your typical community theater) did it. The cast was fantastic and the staging was wonderful. I almost wish I still lived VT, because I would've auditioned in a heartbeat.

It's odd because when I saw it on Broadway, I absolutely hated it and none of the songs were memorable to me.
I later then heard "How Lucky You Are" and I fell in love with it not knowing it was Seussical.
Also, it's odd because everywhere I see it other than broadway, the performances have been really amazing. High schools, colleges, summer camps etc... they've all been really good, and in my opinion, better than the broadway version.

I go back and forth on Flaherty and Ahrens. First off, I want to say they are the best "tradional" writing team working on Broadway today. I love their work...it's just that about half the time, their work leaves me cold:
LUCKY STIFF-loved loved loved it
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND-bored me to tears
MY FAVORITE YEAR-fabulous score, awful book
RAGTIME-best musical of it's decade, robbed of the Tony Award
ANASTASIA-I refer to this film as "anasthesia," 'nuff said
SEUSSICAL-WTF? Weird weird weird show
A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE-should have been a huge hit, but...???
DESSA ROSE-haven't seen or heard it

I think the music is great. The overture and opening are incredible. 'Alone in the Universe' is beautiful and 'For You' is actually a great diva number.

Posted: 4/13/06 at 1:36amYes, at Arts Magnet. Are you Jessica? I loved the performance and I meant to send you a message on MySpace telling you how much I enjoyed the show. I've seriously thought about it atleast 10 times, but never while I was at the computer. I thought about it last night while I was running, actually :-P.

Posted: 4/13/06 at 2:42amI saw the tour production and wasn't impressed. But then I saw a production by a young adult acting group, and I thought they did a very good job. I ended up liking it. The story, eh, but I liked some of the songs.
