What do you all think of the show? I saw it for the first time on Saturday. There was a lot of talent in the show I saw...but it was a weird show. I like a lot of the songs. Love the overture. When I saw it, the 2nd act was only about 40 minutes long. Is that how long it usually is?
Opinions? I always thought it was supposed to be a bad show (just hadn't heard anything good about it).

It's fun and entertaining but lacks substance.
I was in it and I loved every minute of it, but it's so damn catchy!!
I get to reprise my role as the Sour Kangaroo from Seussical this June when we do a little montage of scenes and whatnot at school! oww oww!

Posted: 4/3/06 at 5:33pmLove love love the music from Seussical. I think its the type of show that can either be great or fail depending on the direction and the performers. When I saw it done at a nearby highschool I felt it was too much, they found far too many opportuinities for complex dancing which was good bt distracted from nearly everything. When the line between minimalism and extravagance is found when performing Seussical it proves to be an awsome show. At least thats what I think having only seen the one production. Around the middle it has potential to drag on and get sorta long, but its a fun show with undertones galore so I wouldn't say it lacks substance completly although I can understand where that comes from. Once again, I really like the music and the potential it allows for creativity. That being said I'm going slightly off topic but not really to draw attention to myself: I made this seussical stop motion video afew weeks ago with singing and dancing birds and if anyone's interested in seeing it, heres a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQPIG7Accbo

Posted: 4/3/06 at 6:00pmYou know, a few summers ago I was really in love with the cast recording. I think it's a really fun and cute show. I haven't seen it though. It came on tour and my friends wouldn't go with me because they thought it sounded stupid!

Posted: 4/3/06 at 6:20pmI think the score is wonderful and the songs are beautiful- my personal favorite is "Alone in the Universe." I don't really like the actual plot that much, but it isn't horrible. My school is planning to do it for our musical next year.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 6:20pmI was in a really good production of Seussical this October. We had a really talented cast, nice set and good costumes. And while I liked the cast and the show, I don't think I'll ever be in the show again(nor do I really want to listen to the CD on my ipod for awhile). I guess you could say I'm kinda over it.

I've only seen it once, and I thought it was cute but kind of lame. The music though is ridiculously catchy! Be careful because that stuff will get stuck in your head and never go away!
The cat-in-the-hat looks like it would be a blast to play though.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 6:46pmFun score, but the book attempts to cram way too much into the show. They would have been better off narrowing it to one particular Seuss story. From an audience perspective, I was very tired by the middle of Act II -- there was almost too much happening, too many "big" numbers, and too many plot details without much depth.

The Broadway production I thought was very poor.
It started very well, but then ACT I just kept going and going and going, they kept added more stories and plot...by the end it was a mess that was an hour too long.
Too bad, because the production was interesting, and had some good performances.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 6:48pmlol- If you read the book (Horton ane the Egg) that it is based on first, it is a bit easier to follow, but I still got a bit lost, and I wrote a 7 page paper on the deeper meaning of Dr. Seuss 2 years ago.

I'm currently in Seussical as a bird girl. It's great fun. I like the show a lot, and although it's not as deep as most shows I like, it's fun. It's cute.
Matters, you're video is kind of amazing.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 7:19pmBeing in it can be a fun experience, but the show overall is over (subplots) and under (acting) written all in one.

i just finished up a production of seussical as gertrude mcfuzz.
everyone loved ebing in it. it was SUCH a fun score and the story is rally heartfelt and touching.
I agree teh show can be HORRIBLE if you do too much with it. the material is all there, and if you let it speak for itself, then it can be an amazing show.
it was the best show ive done in a LONG time.
i loved it.

The Broadway production was too much, but the revised script available through MTI, makes the show much better.
I love the music. I recently finished a six-week regional run of the show here in Connecticut. The show is best when done with minimal sets and costumes; otherwise, it really detracts from the show. Perfect for smaller venues and black box theatres.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 8:57pmIn the production I saw, I saw a girl play Jojo. Is Jojo usually played by a boy? It sounds like a young boy on the cast recording--doesn't sound quite as pretty to me.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 9:22pmI think the part's written for a boy but I can see that a girl can play it no prob. One of the things that always struck me about that cast recording is how nice the kid's voice was. He was my favorite performer in it.

It was just done at my school, and was wonderfully done. The set, first off, was ASTOUNDING. They had The Mumps, and a slide, a clock tower, and it looked so amazing. I think the show really only works if you have a good cast, which my school definetely had. The cast definetely carried the show and made it enjoyable. I will admit that by a certain point in the second act, around the time of 'Havin' a Hunch' I was beginning to get a little bored. It was wonderfully done, though, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. They also got the costumes for The Whos from Broadway, which made the show look more professional.
More or less, the show can end up coming off like a professionally done show or an elementary school production.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 10:09pmDepending on how it's put on, it can be really good, or really horrible. My school did it last year, and in my opinion, it turned out very good. Good performances, really fun sets, fun costumes. I think people enjoyed it.

Posted: 4/3/06 at 10:25pmI'm choreographing Seussical for a high school right now. So far, I'm having a great time. The music is really catchy, but there are a lot of big numbers.
