Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Oy...just gave me the chills...and tears. I'm so blessed to see this show. Hope it wins the Tonys.
"I love acting. It is so much more real than life." Oscar Wilde "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Aldous Huxley
I loved The Color Purple! Yes, mygfdontliveincanada, you are right, the score is weak and the songs don't really fit. But the story is intact and it's great story supported by excellent performances. All in all a good theatre experience!
I love the score. Was just listening to it and it grew on me the more I listened to it. I think that commercial was part of a contest. I seem to remember getting a newsletter from the show saying that they were looking for people who had seen it to enter a contest to be in the commercial. I also like the commercial. If it gets people into those seats, that's a good thing!
I really enjoyed the show. From overture to finale. The music may not be the best in musical theatre but I found it very appealing and emotionally driven. Will it win all the Tony's or does it deserve it? No. But I found this production to be touching and really would like to see LaChanze and Co. walk away with some high honors after June 11.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! omg i got tears, chills, and laughs when i saw it and that was a truly moving experience!if your planning on seeing it though, read the book before you actually see the show!
