Yeah. For a minute, I thought Mary McCarty was subbing in for Jerry Orbach durring Razzle Dazzle, but it's just the tape speed.
By the way, where is the sexed-up Razzle Dazzle dance? Was it cut before tryouts?

Posted: 11/2/08 at 5:24pmAnd NGD, Craig and Rob have a serious problem with intelligent discussions about musical theatre from days gone by. Many moons ago, a thread similar to this one existed only revolving around our beloved Follies and it met a similar fate. It's a shame that they'll prohibit us from actually using the board for intelligent, fun discussions but will allow idiot sock puppets to talk about Spring Awakening and Rent. Oh well.

Posted: 11/2/08 at 5:27pmThey need to get the stick out of their asses. BWW Musical was what REALLY pissed me off. We put in all that work & Robert even wrote a review; which I saved because I knew its impending fate.

If it does get deleted, I have a few tricks up my sleeve.

Posted: 11/2/08 at 5:31pmYou mean, there's footage from the original cast Mack and Mabel? I think I just came.
#32re: Original Production of Chicago

I love how Brodyfosse is always the first and the only person to remind us that he had these bootlegs forever, then brags about the other bootlegs that he has whenever people start a bootleg thread.
I knew Brodyfosse would have replied before I even scrolled down below the first post.

I personally don't see the issue with posting videos like this, the only people profiting are the ones looking to enrich their knowledge of theatre, no one makes any money off of them, and these productions aren't even long gone most of the time. AS you can see, I come from the camp who doles their theatre media to anyone who wants it.
And to up the ante, I have the closing night of Mack & Mabel on audio. And I don't even like the show! LOLOLOLOL

What are with the links being taken down? Christ, BWW! It's history!
Oh, pish. They'll delete your PMs as well if they think they're about bootlegs.

hey everyone
I'm glad you all like it!
I'd like to clear up somethings that were mistakenly posted by BrodyFosse123. It wasn't shot by either John Kander or Fred Ebb, but by ensemble member Candy Brown. Pretty much everyone knows that Chicago didn't go out of town to Boston, but to Philadelphia.
Here's hoping more keeps popping up!

Posted: 11/7/08 at 9:30pmJust to clarify, are we talking about the Original 1975 production of CHICAGO footage? I wonder if YouTube would have anything about the Original 1975 production of CHICAGO footage... Original 1975 production of CHICAGO footage would be quite interesting to watch.

Yeah, it's on YouTube. Do a search. It's great stuff.
Oh, and here's a question...
Did Fosse know about this footage? He felt very strongly about his stage work NOT being videotaped. I can't imagine he'd sanction this. He should have, but he wouldn't have.

Posted: 11/7/08 at 11:21pmI think he was fine with is friends and collaborators taking some home movies. What he objected to was archival video records (sadly for us) which is why the only major Fosse I know of in the Lincoln Center archives is Big Deal--and that's of the commonly circulated bootleg! (is the Sweet Charity Revival there too?) it's too bad he didn't have more control over the Pippin filming and edits.

Posted: 11/7/08 at 11:24pmThis is just me, but wouldn't it make more sense to want the entire piece filmed for posterity for the Lincoln Center Library rather than to allow friends or collaborators shoot a few short home movie clips? I'm not complaining that this is the only footagr we have the original. It's better than nothing. I don't understand Bob's thinking here though.

I honestly never knew footage of Mack & Mabel existed. I didn't think it couldn't, but I never really thought about it. I always just focused on the score and why the show didn't work. I never thought about there actually being footage.
Maybe oneday footage will be released to the public. I absolutely adore 'Mack & Mabel' and think it was a masterpiece, flaws and all.

Well to be fair 1975 the Lincoln archives was still not fully set up--they have some video from then or earlier--but most is from other sources (the Black and White video of the original tour with Donna McKechnie and Elaine Stritch of Company, which I'd kill to see from '72 I believe, the '75 Black and White Chorus Line that many people have seen low quality bootlegs of, etc). So Fosse might not have even known of it back then--though he didn't let Chicago be filmed during its run of course. And he didn't let Dancin'...
But he prob thought there'd be no interest in home movies of small scenes from the show done by a friend. It's not the same as filming a relatively high quality version of the whole show (and a simplistic filming as the Archives did, that Fosse couldn't edit to his choosing)
